Our safeties are really slow

We aren't any good all the way up the middle. DT, LB and safety. We get no pressure, trouble stopping the run unless we play the lowly Giants and miss a lot of tackles. Also doesn't help that Zimmer's scheme is bend but don't break so we give up a ton of long drives that takes the air out of the game and usually end in points. Sure, we made NY kick FGs last night but they dominated TOP. Converting a ton of 3rd downs that would have resulted in punts. A microcosm of the Niners playoff game in 2023. Yes, we didn't give up a ton of points but SF scored on seemingly every possession but a few and had long, time consuming drives.

This defense made Danie Jones look extremely efficient. There were a few dropped passes where if NY caught it, easily could have been a loss. That defensive effort didn't give me any confidence moving forward. Now add in Parsons and DLaw will miss multiple games.

Yeah those guys have been major disappointments. I expected Juan Thomas to take Hooker’s job. Wilson has been average since he signed his deal.
I thought we were set at S/CB heading into the season.
Just goes to show you.

Hooker getting caught by a Tight end with a 15 yard head start on the non-fumble was just ridiculous.

Wilson was getting juked all night trying to tackle runners
Agreed.

Our backup Safeties (Juanyeh Thomas and Israel Mukuamu) are faster and quicker, plus more aggressive and better in coverage. They should be starting instead.

We don't often cut our players for cap purposes, but for a normal team both would be candidates after the year if their play doesn't improve.

not sure what you mean he was going for an interception or a pass break up and him blocking the view of the receiver helped make that an incompletion.. You're picking on the wrong play that was a good play he got you a spot he mistimed his jump just a little bit but him being there kept that from being a completion got it anything else we wanna pick apart as a fan base sitting with filling their fat faces while typing on the Internet..

I don't remember the play you're talking about but hookers playing average but he's not playing bad it's Donovan Wilson it's definitely the weak point in the safety group and I expect Thomas to get more playing time at his spot and bell will be back I'm hoping that Mike Zimmer sees this too because everybody is tired of the hero ball trying to do the big hits the missed tackles being out of position getting beat in the open field so yes we have some players to sub in and see if they'll do better and I hope Mike Zimmer does it because Donovan Wilson is a hero player he likes to get the attention of the big hits he belongs on a Dan Quinn defense.... I mean I like the guy but he needs to be sat down I think overshown plain really mad Thursday night because he was sat down didn't get a lot of snaps the game before because he missed a few tackles and I think if you do that maybe you'll get his attention and at the end of the year maybe he'll contribute better.

I think you have to remember Zimmer is using a new defense and using safeties differently. When you're learning you process much slower and could be part of the problem.

Now the missed tackles are a totally different story just poor execution. They had a couple more chances to get stops and prevent points to save points but just couldn't wrap up.
I'm not trying to make excuses but It seemed like the field may have contributed to a lot of those miss tackles. Guys were taking angles they weren't comfortable with and slipping off ball carriers. It was either poor footing or the giants were just juking them over and over. Of course it wasn't an issue for NY, but that could've been footwear also. I don't really know, just speculating, because it was A LOT.

DTs suck
LBs inexperienced or too old
Safeties underwhelming
Corners down to one legit that's healthy

I'm seeing 10-11 wins........and yes, the anemic offense doesn't get a pass either

Hooker should have intercepted it , but yes it was a good play he didn't allow the reception.

Thomas should be playing.
If we are going to rool the dice with Guyton we might as well do it with Thomas. I suspect by week eight our fate may be determined for the playoffs and I would like to see some of the yonger guys get elevated is we are moving past a MM future.

That is right , give these 2 young players a chance to see what they can do .
I wanted to trade Hooker in offseason because I felt it was time to hand FS over to Thomas and actually get a asset back for the draft. I didn't think Wilson fit a 2 High scheme and it's not looking good.

Sometimes I wonder what the heck are they doing at the Star.

Both Hooker and Wilson are on the slow side.Wilson is a box safety only at this point. And I totally agree , thomas needs to be starting free safety.

Cowboys must bench safety Donovan Wilson after poor game vs. Giants

Wilson was projected to be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Zimmer hire. Zimmer loves to move his safeties around the line of scrimmage and call disguised blitzes. That is right up Wilson's alley. He is at his best getting downhill to blow up running plays and pressure the quarterback.
Through three games, Wilson has been a shell of the tone-setting thumper at safety that Cowboys fans have grown accustomed to. The fan base reached its breaking point with Wilson on 4th-and-1 in the second quarter on Thursday. He came unblocked off the edge and had Devin Singletary dead to rights in the backfield but he whiffed on the tackle allowing Singletary to move the chains.

Wilson wasn't the only player that made mistakes, but sloppiness has been a recurring theme this season for the 29-year-old. His gap-filling has been a disgrace and his PFF run-defense grade and pass-rushing grade are both under 60.0 He has also allowed a 116.7 passer rating in coverage.

Coming off a confidence-building performance, the Cowboys' defense would be better off if Juanyeh Thomas or Markquese Bell took Wilson's place in the starting lineup next week.

LOL he did ice diggs when he knocked that other ball down. can't blame him for playing the ball but that's an interception for diggs. the fact that he's where he's suppose....'t know why people are picking on him....
