Our safeties were nothing less than a disgrace today...

I disagree based on experience. We went 0-4 to start my senior year and then went on a winning streak that led us to the State Finals.

Sarcasm is a thing of beauty.

Always demanding someone do some research for you, when you haven't even backed up your thought, lol.

Question, if a team runs half the time, and passes half the time, what is the SS doing on those pass plays?? Picking his nose??

He isn't rushing the QB, he isn't stopping the run on pass plays, sooooo he might be in converage.

YAWN! more snide remarks?

whatever besides facts helps your argument I guess

All that post is saying is that he would have to be in coverage alot, on a pass play, even if he is in the box.

So average coverage skills hurt alot more than you saying.

Actually, its quite a luxory to have your safety play in the box with any regularity. Not many teams run the 4-4-3 with so many 3 WR sets and athletic TE's in today's NFL. Think back to our glory days Woody. The guy was so good in coverage that he covered slot WR's. Laywer Milloy did the same.

Roy is clearly a tier below those guys. He's in the David Fulcher tier.

I'd say ROy is in coverage more than half the time, and he's only given up 1 big play in 4 games

show me a team that keeps their SS in coverage more than 50% of the time

not if you have a FS capable of holding his own in coverage

until Watkins matures mentally, or we find someone else, we're going to be getting burned

Roy wasn't in coverage to help Watkins...that's a silly notion...Philly was forcing us into the nickel because they couldn't run and were using 3 and 4 wr's. The SS has coverage responsibilities, especially when you're trying to avoid the big play....even on the flea flicker, we had the safeties on the wr because the cb's were in coverage on other guys.

Philly intentionally took advantage of our safeties, though they expected to also take advantage of Henry...to be honest, I think Aaron Glenn plays better than Henry against the pass.

I think you mis-read, ROy is in coverage because they can't trust Watkins to handle the centerfield role, he's not helping Watkins, he's helping the D

Least you admitted that he is in coverage half the time, "waffler".........;)

Big plays he has given up, that number can be debated, but heck, I'm not going to answer your "Tell me which plays, in which game, at what time in that game, he gave up a big play", lol. Always wanting someone else to do the work. :)

Also depends on what is a big play to you, a 50 yard TD, or a first down, or 10 yards, or what.

WHAT?!! I've been telling you these last 2 pages that Roy is in coverage alot :bang2: alot is more than half

a big play is anything that is 20+ yards, unless anything under it went for a crucial, game-changing 1st down, go ahead, you'll only find 1 instance, today

here you go:

I think that says it all, you said they aren't in coverage, now you are saying they are. Not a big deal to change your mind and agree with me though.

I never said noone's in coverage, I said that most teams place their SSs in the box moreso than in coverage, just like Troy Polamalu is utilized in Pitt, except for in Pitt, they have a credible FS back there, well they did last year at least, to allow him to do it often, so it doesn't matter if you have a strong front 7 or not, you want that extra blitzer in passing situations in the form of a Roy, or a Polamalu, but we can't do that with an inexperienced Watkins back there, so ROy is out in coverage more often than not, but he's holding his own back there

coverage is not 1st for a SS, it's to play in the box, arguing because we don't play Roy back, because it's not his strength, is a useless argument

btw, we play Roy back in coverage alot, sometimes he makes plays, sometimes he doesn't, welcome to the world of an NFL Dback

Deep Freeze, this is what I'm talking about
