I only mentioned 2007 because I thought we were the best team in the NFC. The best team doesn't always win. But I like the feeling going onto the playoffs that we should beat anyone. Doesn't mean it's going to happen. And I haven't had that feeling since 2007.
The feeling in 2007 disappeared the last month of the season for me. We limped into the playoffs literally and fell apart. Offense was terrible that last month of the season. As opposed to 2014 and 2016, we were playing excellent ball going into the playoffs. Especially 2016. That for me was the last time I had true hope. 2018 we were hot going into the playoffs but I knew the road was going to be too much needing to win back to back road games against Rams and Saints to get there after beating Seattle.
I had no real faith the last 2 playoff seasons of 2021, 2022. We were fortunate enough to play a soft Tampa team first round.
And I love what the defense is doing now but until they can do this when it matters against SF, I have reservations. They wore down last year in the 2nd half and SF just exerted their will on the ground. Diggs drops a very easy TD that changed the whole landscape. For some reason when we play SF, we play scared. Absolutely has to be different this year for me to change my mind about where we can end up this season.
2019 was mentioned, too. And that began like this year. Until we played the first real test in the Saints and looked bad. Season went on a huge skid from there.
