Five things I like about our secondary:

1. Scandrick's return to the slot and his overall leadership on the field
2. Byron Jones full time at FS...best prospect we have had back there since Woody
3. Carr flipping over to RCB-- the position he had his success at in KC
4. Claiborne maturing, healthy, and hungrier than ever
5. Wilcox not starting

IMO-- this is the most complete, competitive secondary we have fielded since Woody retired.

I like what Brown brings to the secondary as well.

Agreed.....but still need to replace Church as starter.

Actually-- I think Church is a classic in-the-box SS. He's just been paired with below average FS partners and had to do too much in coverage. I think him being paired with Jones will really elevate his game and allow him to run downhill and be a disruptive, physical safety. Being another year removed from the achilles injury is a huge plus for him too.

Agreed, Church is average in coverage, but better playing in the box. I dont think he is a weak link either...

in todays NFL both safeties have to be able to cover, if one can't opposing offenses will find him and exploit him.

Seattle plays a lot of single high safety with Thomas and lets Chancellor bang away underneath. I think we are wanting to go in that direction. I am not saying Jones and Church are Thomas/Chancellor-- but I do think that Jones is athletic enough to allow more single high looks than we have ever been able to utilize.

Church can cover; it's just not what he does best. He is a solid safety but even solid safeties can be exploited.

I don't think Church is that bad. He's better playing closer to the line of scrimmage. Jones allows him to do that. His explosiveness in short areas makes him effective at playing closer. He couldn't do that with Wilcox playing FS because he cannot play that centerfielder like Jones can.
