Our Weapons are a huge problem

I will preface my comments with i have not reviewed the all 22 yet because it isn't available.

I am really starting to be concerned that we have no actual weapons on this team. I had held hope that Gallup would be a lead dog of this group but he has shrunk at most of his opportunities to this point (not giving up on him, but I was hoping for more) and Beasley is a nice slot player but easily taken out apparently.

That leaves us with Deonte. For whatever reason, a guy with a career high 27 catches in a season gets an enormous amount of time and it just amazes me. Then you have Williams, this guy is just not very good and hasn't ever been any good. A limited player.

Tavon Austin...we probably need to get him on the field more and maybe start him to be honest. His big play reminded me of the Desean Jackson big plays from the first two weeks...that could be a real threat for us.

Hurns- Slow and doesn't run good routes. He is really another JAG.

Our TEs. I expected more from them to this point. Granted, Dak has missed a couple of big plays to them, one to Jarwin week 1 and a td to Gathers last night. This isn't something Dak has struggled with having gotten the ball to Witten quite consistently his first two years. I have hope for Gathers, as I think he can be a pretty good player. I think they will get him on the field more and more as the weeks go by.

So, when you really take a step back, i am really concerned with the weapons on this team. With the state of what these weapons are, I would make a play for Josh Gordon. I think we have no choice.

Speculation is a trade will happen today with Cleveland moving him to some team for a later round pick that that could end up being a mid-round pick depending on Gordon's availability the rest of the year.

I'd do it. There is no downside here. Throw a 5th or 6th round pick at them that could end up being a 4th if he plays the remainder of the season and see if Cleveland bites. A 5th or 6th round pick is worth the risk IMO. He's that talented.

..no choice? or no chance? or no point? What you need is patience with new and or young players.

I'm on board with this as well. We tried to draft Gordon in the supplemental draft. I think its worth taking a swing at his special talent. You've put up with Gregory this long...

How about giving it another game or two. Gallup is a 3rd round rookie, and everyone else is new. Except Twill that seems missing but a catch here and there.

Maybe they need to trade Twill.

I'm not going to bust on the weapons until the offensive line improves. It's not earning it's collective salary at this point which makes judging anything else connected to the offense difficult.

My hope that just as there was notable improvement between game 1 and game 2 in both the passing game and the offense in general, there will continue to be improvement as the coaches and players get more and more used to the new mix of weapons. Time will tell.

Gallup is the only unknown. Let's not act like Hurns is going to blossom into something he's never been or Beasley or Thompson. Austin, even with that big catch, probably isn't a legit #1ish type WR.

Our offensive pass catching skill players are likely bottom 3rd in the NFL.

I have this feeling that philly will trade for him. They have no receivers right now and they are the champs, so they got nothing to lose

And they are rumored to have lost Mike Wallace for a long stretch, possibly even the year.

I think at this point, it is worst than that. I think it is 1 or 2 worst in the NFL. I would have to look at the weapons of each team, but my gut is that it is toward the very bottom.

I hate to say it, but it might not be the weapons. In 2016 Dez was almost a non factor. Dallas moved the ball with ease whether he was playing or not. Witten was way past his prime that year as well. So an aging Witten, TWill, Beasley, Butler......Those aren't great weapons. The biggest difference I see is time in the pocket. Our offensive line is not holding up nearly as well as they did in 2016. If we do get Josh Gordon (we won't) and this continues, that will tell us all we need to know.

On the bright side it's only week two and things can get better as the season progresses. Then a best case scenario would be getting Fredbeard back.

I had no clue that rookies become All Pro's over night.

We have one rookie.

The rest of our WRs are veterans who have a pretty established track record. I am not sure why people somehow expected some of these guys to be better than what their careers have born them out to be.

Oh, no doubt we need that #1 WR. And TE.

Agreed.

It's the offensive line that's the biggest problem right now.

I'd like to find out what Tampa would take for Cameron Brate. He a very good TE and is splitting time with OJ Howard, plus they have other very good passing game options, so might be expendable to them. Every young QB should have a good TE as a BFF.

you have to manage your expectations properly....gallup is a rookie WR, in his second year playing with a less than average QB....not much to expect....

the fact is we went to this season without much plan and the approach was throw numbers at the problem, drafdft a WR, sign three new ones and hope of the 4 one works out....

I didn't expect much from the TEs....they are average to below average....they have to be accounted for (unless the QB plays skip ball with them), but they won't wow you....

right now the issue is the QB

I have hope for him and I think he will be a good player.

It is the rest of the cast that I have issue with. I see us having a defined role problem. Ideally, Beasley is a great 3rd or 4th option in the passing game. He is our #1 option right now...miscast.

In a perfect world, this is how it will shake out and it may very well be this around week 8...so there is hope. This is ideal:

Gallup- #1 wr
Austin- #2 big play wr.
Beasley- Elite slot player, move the chains on 3rd down. Good 3rd option in passing game.
Gathers- Red zone and big play TE. A guy who can be a difference maker.

Right now, we are so far from this ideal that we have to look outside the organization, imo.

Of course there are betting lines on this.................

Eagles are now even money to land Gordon.

San Fran is 2nd.

Cowboys are tied for 5th.

Getting Gordon would be such a Philly move. And no doubt people here would poo poo it like they tried to poo poo their acquisition of Ajayi last year.
