Our Wideout options..

Draft is loaded with WRs this year. Which also leads to guys getting cut in TC like Robinson did last year. Way too early to be stressing about 3rd WRs. I agree with Sdogo TE gets addressed in the draft early though.

If it is a top prospect at TE great if it is a blocking TE why waste a high pick on it? I just don't think Dallas is looking to replace Witten just yet

We will see but I don't think they have to. We can easily go with Witten and Phillips if they feel the need to get a blocking TE they are not that hard to find. To get a prospect that is an all around TE or great catching TE we would likely have to use a high pick. I just don't think it would be a good move. Get an late draft pick or UDFA blocking TE. I don't think they are looking for Witten replacement right this min

I guess I don't rate Phillips as highly as you do, as a receiver. Maybe he can step in and be that #2 TE, that will be up to the staff. But if we do draft a TE, I don't see him as Witten's replacement, we could easily use them like NE does.

Witten has alot of miles on him and if he goes down you are stuck with Phillips as number one when he more like 2 1/2 or 3. If Fleener, Allen or Charles is there in the 2nd dont be shocked if they grab em.

Just going by the success when the FB was healthy and how Murray and Felix did running behind him I would just as soon go back to what we have done in the past as opposed to using a high pick to get a 3rd TE. I think Phillips is more than serviceable and clearly Witten is still ranking at the top in terms of TE.

I liked Bennett but frankly would not mind moving away from the 2 TE sets.

Never shocked at what we do. If Austin or Dez go down who do we have?

I would just hate to use a pick for TE that early in the draft. We did it with Fasano and Bennett and while I do like Bennett I don't see where we benifeted greatly from it.

I have high hopes for Carter but he is basically a re do of Burnett and Barbie, same as your TE point. What happens when high picks dont work out.

Royal is gonna get paid by either Washington or San Diego, so I doubt we even kick the tires. Definately wouldn't mind Ted Ginn Jr.

Just saying I would give it a shot, not saying we would be able to sign Royal though.

Well thats what we are really talking about here, would you rather the extra guy on 3rd down be a TE or a WR.

I will always say I'm greedy and want both a TE and a vet WR we can use, but we do have a limited amount of resources and alot of needs, so the easy thing to do would be to just get the vet WR and go with what we got.

I can see that, problem is I can see Jerry thinking differently cause those 2 TE sets are good on 3rd down and 5 or less.

I just do not think it is as big of a need. Not saying we should not get a TE I don't think we have to go 2nd rd to get a TE. I could see getting a Rhett Ellison in the 4th rd of the draft

No way is Fleener there at 45. I would love it if he were, but I doubt he gets past the Ravens at #30, Giants at #32, Colts at #33 (remember they cut DClark), the Rams at #35 & # 39 and KC at #44.

Also at 6'2 may not be worth taking, atleast for us. Seems more like an H-Back than a TE. I'd strongly consider either Ladarius Green or Michael Egnew in round 3 but right now, I'd go for Phillip Blake if here were available. Maybe if we traded down earlier we could get 2 thirds.

If I needed a extra blocker on 3rd down the I go FB, TB and bring in an extra OT and along with Witten. RB and FB are just as able to get out on pass routs, hell teams have killed us doing it.

I wouldn't mind Crayton to be honest he was pretty good in that #3 role here last time

He wasn't that good....no retreads....and no big talkers, he flapped his gums too much over nothing.

Ginn may be worth a look, as we need a PR & KR.
Gonalez may not be bad either. I think he has been held back by some injuries just as Robinson was. But not 100% on that.

honestly after seeing how much laurent robinson got paid, every no name reciever should be knocking our door down to play here.

If Fleener is there, which like you say I doubt, it would be hard to pass on him. If there was a TE we would take in the second round, it would probably be him.

Now the 3rd is different, who knows, I like Blake as a player, but I can't see myself wanting to draft him at an age of 27. Thats like picking up a free agent, not a draft pick.....I wouldn't be excited about that at all.

I can see that, guess it depends on how good Vickers works out to be, but since he really doesn't have alot of receiving history, it would be hard to have him out there on a 3rd and 5.

From what I have seen, Vickers is really just a blocker, and in that situation you would need another receiving threat like a TE instead.

I'm all for bringing Patrick Crayton back. He knows the offense. I like Eddie Royal too.

This is a real mixed bag of spped guys, guys who have not panned out, guys with past injuries and guys who want to get paid. Do we look to take one of these or look through a large crop of wideouts in the draft who might offer a different kind of option?

There are a few smaller slot receivers who could also fill the role of punt returner.Joe Adams and Devon Wylie come to mind. There appears to be a healthy selection of these guys in the mid rounds. Does the draft offer a better option than any of the a/n players?

I want us to get in on Schilens. He flashed starter potential every year in Oakland, only to be derailed by injury. Oakland got tired of waiting and loaded up at the position. He needs a fresh start. With some luck he could be special. In other words, he's Laurent Robinson.
