Received the 2014 Draft Guide today. And here's their first round mock:

1. Houston - Clowney
2. St.L (from Wash) - Mtthews
3. Jacksonville - Watkins
4. Clevelend - Lewan
5. Oakland - Mack
6. Atlanta - Robinson
7. Tampa - Evans
8. Minnesota - Mosley
9. Buffalo - Ebron
10. Detroit - Glibert
11. Tennessee- Barr
12. NY Giants - Martin
13. St. Louis - Bucannon
14. Chicago - Tuitt
15. Pittsburgh - Pryor
16. Dallas - Donald
17. Baltimore - Clinton-Dix
18. NY Jets - Beckham Jr.
19. Miami - Jernigan
20. Arizona - Murphy
21. Green Bay - Dennard
22. Philly - Cooks
23. KC - Lee
24. Cincy - Shazier
25. SD - Nix
26. Cleveland (Indy) - Manziel
27. NO - Verrett
28. Carolina - Kouandjio
29. NE - Martin
30. SF - Fuller
31. Denver - Richardson
32. Seattle - Su'a-Filo

Only 1 QB taken (26th) and the Cowboys still end up with Donald (which I would be thrilled).

When did they actually put this together? There are guys on there that I can't see in the first round (Bucanon, Tuitt, Murphy, to name a few, although Tuitt could sneak in at the end)...3 safeties by pick #17?

April 15th.

I wonder...I would bet that it went to print then, but Murphy in the top 20? bucanon? Have they done something recently to get into that range? I sounds more like they were on their list originally and possibly before the combine....I am curious, what did they say about bucanon being so high?

I'm sure they have plenty of good info in there but I'd feel just a little ripped off if that was the mock I got out of my subscription

Nah... I don't buy the thing for the mock.

The mock is one page out of 90 pages.

It's the player evaluations that's worth the price.

They have Bucannon as their 14th ranked player overall and the #1 safety.

They had him ranked 2 out of 18 free safeties using their "OSR" which combines all their Combine figures into 1 score.

I'll say in their defense that draft after draft their list of BPA is pretty accurate. Their mocks mays not be, but their BPA's are pretty reliable. And if they think this guy is a first round safety... Then I'm on board with it.

I really like Buchannon. Reminds me of our guy Roy Williams of a few years ago.....Before he lost heart in the game. :)

Looking at his stats and combine workout number it's easy to see why Ourlads is so high on the kid. He had 114 tackles, which was 8th best in the country. On top of that he had 6 picks and forced 3 fumbles. He's 6'1, 211 lbs and runs a sub 4.5 forty. And his "back-pedal, turn & run" was 2nd best out all the safeties. He's a tackling machine who gets picks.

Mikey, where do they have Demarcus Lawrence in their positional ranking?

10th.

Behind:

Clowney
Tuitt (as a DE)
Martin
Ford
Ealy
Crichton
Chris Smith
Jeffcoat
Will Clarke

Obviously a couple of these guys would be considered 3-4 DE's.

That is absurd. Behind Chris Smith? Will Clarke? Wow.

This is why I love the NFL Draft. Informed voices coming to different conclusions. Only time will tell who is right.

I'm more on board with Brugler. 2nd DE overall with a late 1st/early 2nd round value. I'd rather have Lawrence than I would Ealy.

Thanks for the info.

They gave Clark a 7.20. Lawrence was 7.16 so not much of a difference.

Lawrence had 72 tackles, 20.5 TFL, 10.5 sacks and 3 FF. He was rated (based on physical skills exhibited at the Combine) 15th out of 43 defensive ends.

Clark had 50 tackles, 17 TFL, 6 sacks and 1 FF. He was rated 11th out of 43 on his physical skills (His edge speed was a little better than Lawrence's)

Chris Smith has a 8.81 rating. 36 tackles, 11.5 TFL, 8.5 sacks. He was rated 9th out of 43 on his physical skills. He had better edge speed than Clark and was considerably stronger than both Clark and Lawrence.

BTW, a big drop-off after Lawrence.

I understand why someone would rate Lawrence higher but I can see the point of Smith being rated where he is by Ourlads.

Still makes me laugh when a player is considered "stronger" based on silly data.

Football is as much about leverage and technique as anything. Weight room strong does not necessarily translate.

I'd take Chris Smith over Lawerence too. Smith is more athletic, stronger, and has longer arms. Played against much better competition as well.

He might prove me wrong but I would throw my remote in disgust in we drafted Ealy in the 1st.... or 2nd for that matter. He might rate that high but I just am not a fan... Donald/Barr/Jernigen in the 1st, Easly in the 2nd, Ellis in the 3rd.. I would cry with Joy.

I went to draftbreakdown to take a look at this guy:
chris-smith.jpg

Chris Smith
PositionDESchoolArkansas
Height6' 1"Weight266 lbs
ClassSeniorNumber42

Anaalysis - Has good speed and quickness with adequate power but not elite in any of them. He lacks the physical superiority of other DE's like Tuitt, Barr, or Hagemen. I'm not sure what people were seeing to say he is better than Demarcus Lawrence either. In fact while watching him, I found myself watching this guy more and was much more impressed:

trey-flowers.jpg

Trey Flowers
PositionDESchoolArkansas
Height6' 4"Weight267 lbs
ClassSeniorNumber86
All-Star---40 Time---

Analysis - Played with very good power against good competition. Had good speed and penetration to disrupt the backfield and is generally disruptive often creating opportunities for his teammates. Used good technique to keep contain and found the ball consistently. Has a good motor and continually tracks the play to the whistle.
