Out of state training camp

I was looking at the nfl training camp schedule and I noticed that we were one of the only teams to hold training camp at a location out of the state that the team plays in.

Most teams actually hold it in their normal training facility/stadium in the hometown.

Is this an advantage or disadvantage, or does it even make a difference in your eyes? I could see arguments for both sides. Has it always been this way?

BTW I just moved to Austin and was thinking how sweet it would be if the cowboys held TC closer to home so I could go. Part of the reasoning of this thread :).

Dont really have anything solid to provide other than it is well known that we have a large fan base in the Southern California region that we like to make an appearance there with...

I know the players love the 70s weather out there compared to the heat we have back home here in Texas

I'm wondering if Frisco will have an indoor practice facility available to counteract the heat if it's too oppressive.
Anyone know about that? It's pretty tough to concentrate when you're too concerned about surviving the heat.
I know many players have commented regarding this issue in the past and it does make sense to avoid being distracted by overly oppressive elements if possible. Their current situation pretty much eliminates that.

The Star in Frisco will have an indoor stadium and two outside practice fields, IIRC. Whether the entire team can practice together with all the different positions groups doing their thing simultaneously on a single indoor field, I don't know.

I would say the organization is always looking to strengthen its already-substantial foothold on the So-Cal market/fan base. There's really little point to training locally in DFW or even SA, because fans there are already spoken for, at least from a Cow perspective. Not to mention, the ideal training conditions are an obvious added benefit. That's my take anyway.

Welcome to the 512, you'll love it here, Austin will spoil you. Back to the op tho, I think it's because the summer weather in California is a lot less harsh over there versus the Texas summer. I read somewhere part of the reason was having proper hydration and to ensure safety of players and staff. Also because we are already popular over there so it's like a "second home"

Thanks for the info. At least they may have an alternative if the temp reaches around 100 degrees or so. Whew!

OP seriously? "Has it always been this way?" Are you really that disconnected from Cowboys history? Do you really think having TC in Austin is an original thought on your behave? IT'S BEEN DONE! "America's Team" is more than just a controversial moniker, it is a branding strategy that get's utilized best when the team exposure goes beyond the state borders as much as possible. Yes it all comes down to maximizing the $$$ Jerry can generate for the shield.

You should calm down, it was just a question.

You should calm down, it was just an answer. Didn't mean to make you cry.

No one is crying over here buddy. I hope that you can get over your internet tough guy routine, although even after that I doubt you have the mental capacity to contribute to the premise of the thread.

Geez guys... you should probably take that to PM's.

Anyway, I don't think it really matters one way or the other if it is in state or not. Jimmy Johnson liked to do it in the heat of Texas to toughen up the team but there is certainly something to be said for not fighting the heat while you're trying to learn your position.

With the CBA like it is now and how it limits what teams can do, I don't think it really matters that much... other than Jerry keeps the socal area buying his stuff.

I think training camp will be in Frisco once that is complete, so it won't matter much longer.

LOL, now who's being an "internet tough guy"? Insulting someone from afar is a sure sign of hurt feelings. I hope lashing out at me made you feel better because I can take it. I hope it helps you stop crying soon.

If teams are practicing in their hometown, I would think they are just staying at their houses at night, correct? One could argue it influences our team to get closer over TC as well.

No the road trip influences the team to get closer over training camp.
