Sittin here in Oxnard, where are my boys????
OP seriously? "Has it always been this way?" Are you really that disconnected from Cowboys history? Do you really think having TC in Austin is an original thought on your behave? IT'S BEEN DONE! "America's Team" is more than just a controversial moniker, it is a branding strategy that get's utilized best when the team exposure goes beyond the state borders as much as possible. Yes it all comes down to maximizing the $$$ Jerry can generate for the shield.
Behalf.

I was looking at the nfl training camp schedule and I noticed that we were one of the only teams to hold training camp at a location out of the state that the team plays in.
Most teams actually hold it in their normal training facility/stadium in the hometown.

Is this an advantage or disadvantage, or does it even make a difference in your eyes? I could see arguments for both sides. Has it always been this way?
BTW I just moved to Austin and was thinking how sweet it would be if the cowboys held TC closer to home so I could go. Part of the reasoning of this thread .
They will be there soon. Before you know it you will be singing again... "the boys are back in town". Really good tune by Thin Lizzy.
I feel like I'm caught in a space-time continuum and Thursday will never get here.
You should calm down, it was just a question.
I think it is better to have it in an out of town location; although, it does not have to be out of state.
I think it helps build team chemistry being together away from sleeping at home.
They had it in Austin back in the Super Bowl years of the early nineties and that worked out well. Jimmy likely working them in the heat.
Later they moved to San Antonio and had it inside the Alamodome. The problem with that was working on artificial turf which is not good for the players physically.
They had it in Wichita Falls for a few years during the Camp era. That was reported to be much hotter than Austin and probably one of the hottest places in the US.
I don't know about other NFL teams, but it common for MLB teams to have Spring Training in Florida or Arizona. Heat is not an issue at that time of year. I assume part of it is the convenience of being able to play against other teams that are practicing in the area which is not an issue in football.
If it's about Marketing, San Antonio is probably the best place for that for the Cowboys. Making those fans feel that the Cowboys are like their hometown team is no doubt helpful in marketing, because they are actually a little closer to Houston.
