Not impressed with this team. I know it is just preseason, but our backups are the equivalent of high schoolers.

Poor tackling - The majority of the defense and special teams cannot tackle. Does this coaching staff not train tackling technique in camp? Do the players not practice tacking? Everyone on this team needs to go back and take Tackling 101, and work on it until they master Tackling 911 where the opposing team is being mugged and beaten down.

Quarterback - We have no backup QB's, none are worth spending more time on, better find a veteran this week.

Blocking - Again, the backups are high schoolers. Do these guys practice?

Special teams - Every special teams play seems to result in a penalty, again poor tackling.

Coaches - I've noticed some of the coaching staff joking around with the players on the sidelines, having a grand ole time, when they should be chewing the players butts who are not performing. Do the coaches care that our backups couldn't even play in the CFL?

Not impressed.

The goal is not to impress in preseason. The goal is to figure out which players to keep over other players. For example, who to keep at TE? We know Jarwin and Schultz are #1 and #2. Don't need any preseason to figure that out. Preseason is to rank Sprinkle vs McKeon vs Eubanks. Talent, availability, ad upside. McKeon ran out to the lead early but got hurt and is not available. Eubanks played well in his absence. Eubanks showed availability, talent, and upside. My guess is Eubanks gets the nod over Sprinkle and McKeon.

Heck, they do this in regular season games when there is much more on the line. In 2021, sadly, most players on every team see PS as a joke.

No one really coaches in preseason though. No one uses a game plan

Preseason is so overrated. Like you, I am concerned about this team but it’s based on the incredibly soft culture this owner has engendered. So forget the preseason performance. That’s not our real problem anyway.
I agree, it's a country club. Just it irks me other team's backups can actually tackle and have backup QB's that can move the ball. It's like Dallas' training camp is a party.

But at the very least, you want to get an idea of how deep the roster might be. It looks like GM Jerry has put together another paper thin roster.

Linebackers were definitely impressive.

I have a strange feeling the Cowboys are going to look completely different on both sides of the ball with a very aggressive approach. The offense will become a juggernaut once it gets it feet under them. The defense will give up a lot of big plays, but will rank high in the stats for QB pressure, takeaways and run defense. Speed and violence on the field in 2021. Emphasis on physicality and mayhem around the LOS.

Look, the Cowboys were never going to win this game today. Meyer wants to win too much in preseason and McCarthy just wants to see the bottom roster guys and come out healthy.

When you have two teams that approach the preseason in such a wildly different manner, it is going to be ugly for one team. You can have a little game planning going on on one side and practically none on the other. Having most of the starters for one half against the other’s 2nd, 3rd and 4th string guys makes an enormous difference on how the game goes. It isn’t pretty for one side when it happens.

Add in the fact that the Jags 2nd and 3rd string QB’s are better than the Dallas 2nd, 3rd and 4th QB’s, and it is little surprise that the game went how it did.

None of this matters in the regular season though. A game where both sides used the starters and both game planned for the other would look completely different.

As an aside though… I do think Jacksonville is going to be much better this season than they have been in recent years. Not because of anything that went on today, but because I think Meyer is going to win and win pretty early.

me neither , what a cluster bomb

I don’t really get rating the group as a whole in pre-season. From what I saw:
  • Parsons and Neale looked brilliant tackling
  • Odigi looked really good and a potential instant starter and regularly made tackle plays
  • Bohanna punched above his 6th round grade
  • Kazee is a huge safety upgrade and does a nice job coming down hill to tackle
  • Cox flashed fantastic tackling and in patches was impressive but also made mistakes.

If I had a complaint it would be Joseph isn’t as good as I’d hoped a 2nd rounder would be. Given his lack of even college experience he was always going to be raw but I still hoped for more. I was also hoping Steele would have made swing tackle his own after all that starting experience last year.

I think it all starts with Dak not playing at all and most fans not having any confidence in any of the backup quarterbacks.

Our backup quarterbacks have been bad and that in turn has made the entire offense look the same.

We will see Dak play in the the first regular season game and think, "Now that looks like an NFL offense", only to desperately hope that nothing happens to him because if it does, we will end up with our preseason offense during the regular season.

The sad part is that many fans knew this before preseason started and have been hoping the coaching staff would realize it as well so they could go get a veteran quarterback to backup Dak.

Their window to do that though and have that player ready for the first game in case Dak gets injured or re-injures/aggravates something previously injured is rapidly closing.

I am hoping they are going to sign a veteran quarterback who becomes available during final cuts or if necessary trade a low round pick for one another team does not need.
