Over all preseason - Not impressed

I think it all starts with Dak not playing at all and most fans not having any confidence in any of the backup quarterbacks.

Our backup quarterbacks have been bad and that in turn has made the entire offense look the same.

We will see Dak play in the the first regular season game and think, "Now that looks like an NFL offense", only to desperately hope that nothing happens to him because if it does, we will end up with our preseason offense during the regular season.

The sad part is that many fans knew this before preseason started and have been hoping the coaching staff would realize it as well so they could go get a veteran quarterback to backup Dak.

Their window to do that though and have that player ready for the first game in case Dak gets injured or re-injures/aggravates something previously injured is rapidly closing.

I am hoping they are going to sign a veteran quarterback who becomes available either during final cuts or if necessary trade a low round pick for one another team does not need.

Why did we not go get Menshew???

Preseason is so overrated. Like you, I am concerned about this team but it’s based on the incredibly soft culture this owner has engendered. So forget the preseason performance. That’s not our real problem anyway.

Agreed on the culture.

When did this team earn the right to slack off in pre-season? What have they done lately to deserve that?

Sure Jimmy Johnson looked a little silly when he and Jerry went charging off that field at the end of their first pre-season. But at least the message was clear.

Not impressed with this team. I know it is just preseason, but our backups are the equivalent of high schoolers.

Poor tackling - The majority of the defense and special teams cannot tackle. Does this coaching staff not train tackling technique in camp? Do the players not practice tacking? Everyone on this team needs to go back and take Tackling 101, and work on it until they master Tackling 911 where the opposing team is being mugged and beaten down.

Quarterback - We have no backup QB's, none are worth spending more time on, better find a veteran this week.

Blocking - Again, the backups are high schoolers. Do these guys practice?

Special teams - Every special teams play seems to result in a penalty, again poor tackling.

Coaches - I've noticed some of the coaching staff joking around with the players on the sidelines, having a grand ole time, when they should be chewing the players butts who are not performing. Do the coaches care that our backups couldn't even play in the CFL?

Not impressed.
Hopefully Tampa Bay is thinking like you. McCarthy’s plan all along.

What I don’t like is seeing everyone on the sidelines eating those freaking sunflower seeds. That crapp needs to stop. I’ve never seen such a thing. Discipline fellas!

Its somewhere between a 7 and 9 win team. My only take away from this game is all pre season I heard how HORRENDOUS that Jville O Line was...........until miraculously today. I am sure it was a coincidence though.

Tackling is indeed a problem, but in fairness I haven't seen any other games besides ours.

Can't say if it's a Dallas problem or more of a league wide thing because of limited contact in practice per CBA.

I suggest that you see number 11 when the real games start. You might want to take a look at some of these backups: 48, 31, 40, 1, 20, 85, 98, Basham, 92, and whoever the backup free safety is,

Preseason is about more than tryouts for bottom half of roster. True...it not just wins either. It getting an idea of how the organization operates.

I've watched teams run very successful and impressive drives. Even with scrubs to be cut. That tells me they have prepared for regular season...and know how to run the team. From a system level.

Us? Seems like we run random plays for s&gs. Not impressed.

Look, the Cowboys were never going to win this game today. Meyer wants to win too much in preseason and McCarthy just wants to see the bottom roster guys and come out healthy.

When you have two teams that approach the preseason in such a wildly different manner, it is going to be ugly for one team. You can have a little game planning going on on one side and practically none on the other. Having most of the starters for one half against the other’s 2nd, 3rd and 4th string guys makes an enormous difference on how the game goes. It isn’t pretty for one side when it happens.

Add in the fact that the Jags 2nd and 3rd string QB’s are better than the Dallas 2nd, 3rd and 4th QB’s, and it is little surprise that the game went how it did.

None of this matters in the regular season though. A game where both sides used the starters and both game planned for the other would look completely different.

As an aside though… I do think Jacksonville is going to be much better this season than they have been in recent years. Not because of anything that went on today, but because I think Meyer is going to win and win pretty early.

Exactly....our game looked a lot like the San Fran _ Las Vegas game. SF had starters in, LV did not. 20-3 First half on way to 34-10 win.

We clearly weren't concerned with winning any preseason games. I'd expect 2-3 weeks of rust on the starters when the real season starts.

Hopefully, the Bears cut Dalton or Foles.

I remember 2020 so I like where we are now but even better is where this version of the Cowboys can go if Big Mike and his staff don't find a way to muck it up.

I see and agree with what you're saying. If some of the starters go down, I have no faith some of the backups can step in and step up. I would have liked to seen more effort from the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th stringers this preseason.

Absolutely. My biggest concern is, like you said, the backup QB.
