Overall Grade for Cowboys head coach?

Brian Schottenheimer and Jerry Jones: C

Every head coach and general manager is joined at the hip. Some folks enjoy requoting the Bill Parcells quarterback commandments, but his wisdom extends beyond that. Here are two quotes for what he had to say about team results, coaching, and roster control:

"You are what your record says you are."
"If they want you to cook the dinner, at least they ought to let you shop for some of the groceries."
In short, Schottenheimer can be unfairly judged solely on his own merits in Dallas--even though whatever he does will already be pre-contaminated by Mad Genius.

These 2 points go together in shaping him out to not be successful. Every time it's FA I get that Bill Parcells thought in my head. Do we NOT want to be successful? Giving these coordinators scraps and then saying "I thought we'd be better!" Are you expecting them to be miracle workers.

The real miracle workers are the MODS, man i don't see how you guys do it day after day!!:huh::huh::huh::lmao2:

What's your overall grade for Shotty in his first season as the Cowboys head coach??? We've seen some good things and some things that still scratch your head about these head coaches Jerry hires. He's held players accountable, maybe could have done this more, but with that, there's been questionable moments, and a lack of discipline during games for this team still. At this point, i'll give him a C+, what your grade?????
What am I grading him on? With players, I can see them play. I only see our coach standing on the sideline. Do I grade his posture? His back is usually straight. Has a firm grip on whatever he is holding. Hat seems secure. I'll give him a B.

C.

The roster needed rebuilt. Not his fault. The D is a total mess with Flus. Not his fault. But some of the play calling is suspect (which really grinds my gears) and he gets away from the run far too often.

They're currently 7-8-1 and have missed the playoffs again. I would say that's a rather poor start to someone's coaching career, but it could have been much worse. C- or D.

This should be added, as was mentioned in post #4 above this one - a head coach for the Dallas Cowboys can't really be accurately evaluated because no one knows how much of the day to day Jerry is influencing. All signs point to Jerry being the real HC who runs the team from the owners box while the guy on the sidelines with the actual title of HC is his assistant following orders.

Jerry needs to be gone and totally out of the picture before Schnotty can be properly evaluated. There can't be any concerns that Jerry is sticking his fingers into everyone's orifices and manipulating the chess pieces like there is right now.
100% true. I give Schotty credit for making do with the hand he was dealt with. It's difficult to give him a grade, because much of the poor performance on this team can be attributed to the defense led by a coordinator that was forced upon him. If I had to give out grades: Coach Jerry gets an F for his selection of Eberflus and constant meddling; and Assistant Head Coach Schotty gets a C+ for at least trying to steer this team's culture in a positive direction.

You know how they say you can never out workout a bad diet? Well we are learning that you cannot out coach a lousy front office.
When I was in high school I accomplished this. I lived on McDonalds and 7-11. Burned it off during football practice and playing pick up basketball.

No way I could do it now, though. I have to watch the calories and walk a lot to keep thin.

Needs to be rebuilt and NOT rebuilt with FORMER 1st round picks, and guys with injury histories to start off with!!

Considering no Parsons plus Bland missing a ton of time ( he’s the teams best corner ) and a team suicide he’s got them one game from finishing .500 I say B . I like this offense much more than MM who grabbed the Denny’s menu on the sideline was calling plays .

With this offense and any kind of D they should have won Arizona and Carolina which would put them at possibly 10 wins . I think honestly Jerry stumbled into a younger more in tune with the lockeroom HC going into the future .

Is it the offense, or that Pickens added to the betterment of the offense to make it look dynmaic? Don't get me wrong it was FUN not knowing what was going to happen by the look of the SAME formations in the MM era!

Almost exactly the same with me. Right down to the McDonalds. Lasted to about my late 20s. Now I have to walk a lot, chop wood, whatever to keep a bit active to stay in shape. If I don't, I'll sit at an uncomfortable 15-20 pounds overweight.

I don't eat fast food anymore, but I don't watch calories. I still eat like I'm on a boardwalk, in a bar, or at a BBQ. Minus the McDonalds.

That's what everyone was saying before Parcells got hired.
It's been well documented why Bill was hired. You and I have both been around long enough to know how it went down.

What big name has shown interest in coaching in Dallas since Bill left Texas in 2006?

Bringing in Pickens made a huge difference. The Stans want to give Dak all the credit, and to that I say go back to the 2018 season. That season was swirling down the toilet at a very fast pace until what happened? Amari Cooper came on board and Dallas finished the season 7-2 after a 3-4 start. Was that all Dak or a #1 receiver being brought to the roster?

Take Pickens off the 2025 roster and see how much worse the record is this season. Dak the invincible isn't so great without top receivers making plays.
