Can someone please explain the fascination with this guy? Only thing I see is a very risky very Athletic Prospect beyond that not much.

I guess you either buy into his talent or not.

For me I see every tool imaginable for the guy to be an elite pass rusher.

Physically he is awesome.

Problem is lack of production despite being a physical freak. I like to see my first round pick with some production to back it.

Very true. I guess there are cases of Prospects Excelling that we're in his shoes (JPP, Eziekel Ansah)

I see a guy with great size, long arms, a near elite get off, and great power in his punch.

I think people who don't like him aren't acknowledging the fact that he played the majority of the time as a read and react 5 tech.

The only problem I see with him is possible medical problems with his hip....but only the doctors will know the answer there.

Look beyond the stats, he was a disruptor on that UCLA defense. Think Tyron Crawford kind of impact.

Have any of the top egde prospects play more than half of their downs as 5 techniques and they won't even be considered 1st rounders. The guy has more elite traits than guys like JPP and Ansah coming out. Other than the hip I have no idea why he would be available to us at 27. But if he is I'm running to the podium though.

I watched some of this year's UCLA games being an alumni. But I just wasn't that impressed. There were plenty of third downs that the front 4 generated no pass rush. Those downs he wasn't playing 5 technique.
I hope our scouts are correct if we draft him. In that UCLA defense Kendrick and Jacks are the standouts.

His main issue is that he lacks that explosion and ability to bend to get to the QB like elite pass rushers do, he can get the push and create pressure but ultimately lacks this key element to his game.

He does have flex appeal, can move inside as well as play the edge but I just see that missing key ingredient.

Hip surgeries and little perceivable impact makes me not want him at 27. Reeks of bust to me

He's the physical prototype, with great power, length, motor, and position flex. As has been said, the fact that he played a 5-technique definitely cost him some production.

As has also been said, his lack of bend around the corner means he frequently forces the QB to move (pressure), but can't always finish the play (sack). So he's more of a distribution than pure sack guy. Add to that the hip injuries, and I can see why he might be there at 27. Still really like him though. I think my 4 guys at this juncture are O'Diggy, Malcom Brown, Kevin Johnson & Eric Kendricks. One will certainly be there.

I think he is terrific. IMO, if teams think his hip is OK, then he'll probably be gone by #27.

He is very quick and powerful. In some games he had pressure on the QB on almost all passing snaps.

He played as a 3-4 DE with a very limited number of snaps as a DE on a 4 man line. He often played a read-and-react style with outside run contain responsibility. Against teams with running QBs, he often played contain against that also. He would double teamed often.

He looks like a perfect fit in Marinelli's scheme on either the strong side or weak side.

Sack stats are not a good way to evaluate college pass rushers. Many college officials allow an extreme amount of holding that won't be allowed in the NFL. Many college offenses are based on quick passes in a spread that get the ball out of the QBs hands quickly.

Because when Marinelli gets a hold of him he's going to beast it up...

I know the hips are an issue. The question I have is this, how much of a mark does age give him? 23 isn't terribly old, but he's on the older side of drafted players and is still somewhat of a project.

I'm not a fan of him in the first due to the medical issues and perplexing production, but would be fine spending a #2 pick on him.

It's funny. Fans love Crawford because he gets constant pressure despite not getting sacks. Yet we hated Spencer his whole career, naming him Almost Anthony.
