SkinsandTerps said:Do you truly believe that the Cowboys WRs are superior ? How ? Look at stats. Stats dont mean everything but honestly they are about the same.
By all means, let's look at the stats:
The Cowboys' top 3 are Terry Glenn, Keyshawn Johnson and Patrick Crayton... in their season opener, those 3 combined for 14 catches, for 191 yards and 3 TDs... 13.6 yards per reception...
The Skins' top 3 are Santana Moss, David Patten and James Thrash... in their season opener, those 3 combined for 10 catches, for 126 yards and 0 TDs... 12.6 yards per reception...
Advantage, Dallas... more receptions, higher yards per reception, 3 TDs to none...
But wait, I can hear you now-- that's just too small a sample size... so, let's go back to last season:
Glenn, Johnson and Crayton-- 106 catches, 1543 yards, 9 TDs... 14.6 yards per reception... note that the rookie Crayton only played in 8 games, and that Glenn missed 10 games to injury...
Moss, Patten and Thrash-- 106 catches, 1841 yards, 12 TDs... 17.4 yards per reception... they missed exactly ONE game last season...
So, the Cowboys' top 3 WRs combine to catch 106 passes in 30 games, the Skins' combined to catch the same number in 47 games... obviously, the Cowboys' trio was more productive on a per game basis, while the Skins had the higher yards per catch, and the difference in TD catches is largely explained away by the discrepancy in the number of games played...
Again, advantage, Dallas... after all, they will have all 3 WRs available for this game... and you don't EVEN want to go there if the Boys make Peerless Price active, Price was FAR more productive than your 4th WR, Taylor Jacobs...
No, the WR stats are NOT "about the same"...
Brunell may indeed be as Parcells' says "a bus driver". But when you have the type of defense that the Commanders have and the type of rushing attack that the Commanders have anything can happen.
The Skins rushed for 3.6 yards per carry against the Cowboys in two games last year (49 carries, 178 yards), and zero TDs...
And the Cowboys have significantly upgraded their defensive personnel this year... for one thing, they have gotten much bigger and more physical...
The same can be said for the Cowboys, except that the Cowboys are in a "new" defense.
And that "new" defense took the league's sixth ranked rushing offense last year, the Chargers, and held them to 103 yards rushing on 26 carries, a 4.0 average... last year, the Chargers averaged 136.6 yards rushing, and 4.2 yards per carry...
If you think the Skins can beat the Boys by pounding the ball at them, you're fooling yourself...
