P90x

You sound like you're pretty lean, so I doubt you have a real need for the Kenpo stuff....but I suggest you give yoga another try.

I hate the yoga dvd. It sucks, its' boring, and it takes forever....but the results are pretty impressive if you stick with it. Especially if you're not particularly flexible or have less than ideal range of motion. Yoga's ability to help with injury prevention is notable as well....and besides, it's not your typical yoga....you can actually get some muscle gain from it with some tweaks here and there.

After you get past the first 40 minutes it gets easy...

Funny how people are so uneducated and ignorant about Yoga. I do it all the time for physical and mental reasons.

People have been doing yoga for thousands and thousands of years..

Cowboy McCoy, you're right man, i just didn't have the patience for it.

Today I actually did 30 minutes of the yoga video (trying to ween my way into the full 90 minutes of it). By the end of the 30 minutes i really could tell that my body was working in a much different way than any other workout, so I plan on doing the yoga once a week...my flexibility sucks anyways..too much running without enough stretching haha.

I did p90x for 4 weeks straight and stayed on cue minus the yoga and kempo, but I ran 15-20 miles each week for cardio.

I've got a before and after from those 4 weeks, how do i post those pictures???

You'll have to upload to a free site like ***BLOCKED***. After uploading, they will give you the html code for the picture so you can post it here.

I just bought the pull-up bar and am about to purchase some dumb bells. Trying to see if the video guys here at work have a copy of P90x I can use for a lil' bit ;)

You'll thank yourself in ten years if you keep doing the yoga...the benefits are long lasting. I was inspired by watching my old man, an ex-professional athlete, struggle everyday with back and joint problems. Yoga can help with this quite a lot.

I still don't do yoga very often, but I intend to make it a more commonplace activity in the future.

I'm doing some P90x routines to try and warm up for Crossfit. I'm starting this weekend with the preliminary two week trial to see if they'll let me join...can't wait to get the ball rolling, as everyone I've met that has gotten into Crossfit claims that its' changed their lives....the results are obvious, mentally and physically.

I'll only be able to do about 1-2 days of Crossfit a week because of scheduling conflicts, so I may keep doing some P90x stuff on my own time too....it offers a very good variety of workouts IMO.

BTW, keep going past the 30 minute mark on the P90x yoga workout....it gets much easier after about 40-45 minutes IIRC. At that point, there seems to be a lot less pain for those of us that don't exactly bend all that well anymore. :)

Yep....plus you can meet some insanely hot women.

Just make sure they don't think you're gay! :D

j/k

God I need to stop being a lazy, fat, slob and actually get back to working out again with this. It's such a great program.

I am wrapping up week two. Week one was hell in summertime, but week two is a little bit easier... still a killer workout, but my body is adjusting. I was shocked at how much better my body responded to Yoga the second time.
The thing I really like about this workout is that it is balanced... strength, balance, stamina, and flexibility. I have worked out a lot in the past, but never with this kind of focus on flexibility and balance. It makes a big difference.
It is expensive, but since a lot of people probably bought it for a New Years resolution & have already quit, you can probably find it cheap on Craigslist. I bought it for $50 & it included all the manuals, posters, DVD's, etc. From the website is costs over $100 plus shipping.
You do need to have some dumbells, a mat, and a way to do pullups. The workout sheets are available for free from the company website.
Good luck!

Yeah I just actually have to get myself to do it. I have the mat, dumbells (and bands), place to do pull ups, the DVDs, all of it.

I just don't do it cause I'm lazy. :)

Just started on Tuesday. I can barely move. Plyometrics should be classifed as cruel and unusual punishment. I could only make it through 45 minutes.

The last 15 minutes of it are actually really easy... it is just a few sports inspired moves like jumpshots (basketball), monster tire jumps (football), and a simulated pitch and crouch to defensive position (baseball). Compared to the first 45 minutes, the back 15 is a breeze.

Don't quit, though. If you make it through week 1, the soreness will fade. Plyo is the hardest workout, IMO.

Good to know.

No quitting here. I realize that's what this workout is all about...that by Day 90, you should be able to go stride for stride with that jerk named Tony. ;)

When you get to the Kenpo workout on the 6th workout of the week, make sure you are lined up facing the tv... it gives great pleasure to pretend you are throwing all those kicks & punches at him.

Plyo is easily the hardest workout in the whole program. To me the only thing even close would be the Core Synergistics workout and it's no where near as tough as Plyo.
