We do not need a first round pick.

While we might move up 2,3,4 slots in round 2 to get a certain player, We do not need to move up in round 2 to get a good player...there will be one there.

The key to having all those picks is being able to maneuver on day 2 to get the players we target in each round.

Think about last year. Felix Jones looks like a good pick if he can stay healthy; Mike Jenkins looks like a good pick. but neither of those guys made last year's draft a successful one. WE found players throughout the draft. We found Ratliff in a previous year in round 7.

The excitement we feel shouldn't be about the possibility of trading most of our extra picks to move up to the top of round 2 to get a guy who is still considered a 2nd round value. The excitement should be that we have so much ammunition to use to get the guys we want who might go several picks ahead of us in every round of the second day...we also should be excited about having Tom Ciskowski and the clout he'll have in the draft after last year's success.

So we have to wait most of day 1 for one player and ESPN gives us a C- or D on day 1 simply because we traded our first round pick. This team is not so strong at CB, SS, LB, NT, OL, WR, FB, and special teams that we'll be wasting many of those 2nd day selections. I think it's a no-brainer that 6 rookies minimum will make the final roster...a couple more will be more likely to sign to our PS after being with us in camp most of the way...and some picks will be used to maneuver.

I like the way this is shaping up....We have to be patient or go play golf on day 1, but on day 2, we are going to be among the biggest and most successful players.

There's no way we'd trade 6 picks to move up 15 spots, regardless of what the draft chart states.

On draft day, the actual cost to move up those 15 spots will be alot less than that.

Oh, I totally agree, but I was just showing what it would be according to the "pick value chart".

my best case scenario would be to pick twice in the 2nd rd.move up from 69th into the 2nd rd.there are some talented players going in the 2nd rd who can be starters eventually.i wouldnt give up on the 1st day yet.

I could definitely see that scenario happening.

There probably will be some people calling for our third round pick, since it is so high, and the third round is now the first round on the second day. Giving teams the chance to reset their draft boards and see who has fallen.

i would favor getting a low 3rd round by trading up.
the value is in the 3/4 rounds.
getting a "high" 2nd will cost too much.
we need players and trading away multiple picks to get one will not do.

And there isn't anything wrong with trading a pick or two in this year's draft for a better pick or two in next year's draft.

I believe you have to start dipping into future picks, now days, in order to really move up anywhere significant in a draft.

So you'd be looking at trading picks off next years draft if you wanted to do more than move up a few spots, most likely.

For the most part, I hope we actually draft 9-11 players.

I know we probably won't.

But we really could use quite a bit of depth as well as players challenging for starting positions.

Off the top of my head, we could use

2 OL
2 LBs
2-3 Secondary players
1 DL
1-2 WRs (depending on Stanback)
1 Back-up QB
Possibly 1 FB

That's 10-11 players right there.

In any case, we probably won't draft 11, but I hope we draft at least around 8 players.

That's about how I see it, at the very least 6-8 would get us some depth.

"Disturbed":There are a couple of things wrong with packaging picks to get a high profile player. First, we are a 9-7 team that has a number of real issues that need to be addressed. Second, our past draft history has proven we have a very low "hit or success" ratio when it comes to the draft. Third, we to use the picks for this year or trade for next years draft picks....not overspend on a few guys or even consider FA.

We have been 9-7 three of past four years. An average team that needs better focus, coaching, determination, and higher character guys. We need as many draft picks as we can get.

Jerry, please continue to get rid of bad character and non performing players...focus on young hungry good blue collar guys for the offensive line, aggressive LB and safety, and a decent backup QB

QFT Disturbed. I strongly agree that it isn't worth the risk. ESPECIALLY because quite frankly most GM's will fleece JJ: that's my biggest worry. We seem to be picking much better football players the last couple years: let's KEEP those picks and make hay: seriously.

We can move up because of the number of picks we have or we can stay put and draft what falls in our laps. I wouldn't be married to any particular line of thought and either way would be fine.

Dallas has been drafting pretty well lately and I think it is a philosophical shift in the franchises thinking as well as Jerry simply learning (from Parcells in large part).

Last year's draft was a very good one and if they can take the same angle with the '09 draft, we should get a lot of good talent.

Move up a few spots if necessary... or stay put and go with the consensus BPA.
