Packers linebacker Barnett arrested for battery

APPLETON, Wis. (AP) Green Bay Packers linebacker Nick Barnett was arrested early Sunday after a disturbance at a nightclub.

Police said in a statement that Barnett was taken into custody for battery after allegedly being involved in a physical altercation about 2 a.m. at the Wet. He was taken to Outagamie County Jail in Appleton and released within an hour after posting a $500 cash bond.

Barnett appeared for a charity softball event later Sunday, participating in a preliminary game involving Packers players and sponsors. But he left the field before the regular game and didn't return.

He was unavailable for comment.

In a statement issued after the game, the team said, "We are aware of the incident in Appleton involving Nick Barnett. The Packers organization is going to defer further comment until we have had a chance to speak with Nick and gather more facts."

Barnett is in his fifth year with the Packers, who selected him in the first round of the 2003 draft. He's been the starting middle linebacker since his rookie season.

The Packers gave Barnett with a six-year, $34.85 million contract extension in April.

His arrest comes in the midst of the Packers' organized team activities. The voluntary workouts, which started May 30, resume Monday and end Tuesday.

Interesting.

Goodell's approach to this epidemic (pandemic? echinacea?) certainly appears to be working wonders as a deterrent. If this is true, Barnett could either be fined 200 dollars, or have his nads chopped off.

Noone really knows.

Apparently Barnett's willing to roll the dice.

Goodell can't control the actions of these players but he can keep them out of football if they choose to act in a manner that the NFL finds detrimental to the league and the leagues image. It really comes down to the choice of the player and what is important to him. Guys will either learn and clean up their act or they may find themselfs looking for a new career outside of football.

Thanks for that revelation.

I was not aware that Goodell had not yet developed a mind control device.

Just responding to the sarcastic remark about Goodell. It is almost as if you want to blame him for taking a stand that many around the league have asked for because many want this league cleaned up.

Amazing to me, how many good things happen at clubs after 12:00 AM. A message nobody seems to get. On the other hand, at least it's not another Bengal.

Were your hands broken? Or just the control key on your keyboard?

I continue to say the same but some still don't get it. I only say it because of experiance. I admit I did not listen to older people when I was being warned of these things after all I thought I knew so much more than them. Later I find that they did know what they were talking about.

A lot can be said for experience but then you don't get it nor did I at one time. I see the arguments take place and I laugh because I sounded a lot like some of you several years ago. Don't worry one day you will give advice based on your life experiences and some will just blow you off and act as if you don't know what you’re talking about.

You can go out after 12:00 and have fun and yet still be safe.

People do it all the time. Most exercise good judgement.

Its really not complicated.

Doomsday, don't argue with Vintage. He's 21 years old. He's already learned all there is to learn.

I'd love a link to where I said that.

What I have learned, however, is that when I exercise good judgement, I stay out of trouble.

Reminds me of a Kenny Chesney song. A lot of things different. "And I wish I would've listened when they said Boy, you're gonna wish you hadn't
But I wouldn't"

Can't say your wrong Dooms. Can't even say I was different. I wished I'd have been smart enough to listen a little better when I was young too. I guess that's just how it goes but in the end, doesn't matter how old you are. Stupid stuff is stupid stuff. Sooner or later, those bills will come due.
