Look at the bright side, he could sign a long term deal, and go in the HOF a Cowboy.
Not with 3 Super Bowl rings in New England.

As has been pointed out- with parity no one is going to win games regularly by 2-3 TD's. Many will be close enough to be decided by a kick. In that REALITY- getting the best kicker you can get is the SMART thing to do.

If we were after Vinatieri then it would have been done pretty fast.

I think they were going to see how much Vanderjagt wanted and go from there. Now it seems they want Josh Brown, but why give up a draft pick for that guy.

I know one thing, get a veteran kicker signed already while the viable ones are still available.

Pay him what he wants. If we would have had a kicker last year we would have made the playoffs.

I know he said he wanted a warmer climate, right now that is probably our strongest attraction because he is not making that much here, of course stranger things have happened I guess.

Does anybody know who we might be playing outdoors later in the season when it will be cold and windy? Isn't that one of is major selling points to be able to kick well in the elements?

There is no better move we could make imho that would be better then adding both a CLUTCH KICKER and a PLAYMAKING WR in the same offseason. It's like taking care of both ends of the spectrum. If TO can't win it with the last second TD, Viniteri can just come in and kick it for the win.

The interesting thing is, for all the Bryant and Longwell love early, the two best kickers are still on the market. And Josh Brown isn't a bad consolation prize if everything else falls through.

I wonder if this is partially why we haven't offered anything to Brown yet? Could our eye be on a guy like Vinatieri, just checking out his situation? Or, are we waiting for the timing to be right with Brown, so we can try to offer a contract when Seattle may be unprepared to match?
With Longwell getting what he got..

and with Dallas making the gains it's making with TO arriving and other players to improve the team here in Dallas..

Vinny is keeping his contract numbers high to be sure that regardless of these teams needing him, that he keeps options open to make a visit to Dallas and sniff the air in VR before he decides what's what.

Vinny can always come down in his needs and he can always accept the Packers deal that may not have been offered officially, but is there none the less.

Could it also be, that the Packers know or feel, that Dallas with Parcells and NE and his old situation, that a Packers offer will only be matched or exceeded by one of those teams and therefore, the Packers declined to make an offer, just to be shopped..?

That would be my take.

After the signing of TO and others are reviewed next week, I think Vinny will slide into Dallas and get his serious offer and make the move.

I think Vinny is the best kicker out there, he's going to be key to allowing Dallas to play close games and win their share and he's the last piece to BP's puzzle that allows us to play conservative football and be effective or play a big play offense and just have Vinny tack on the EP's after the scores.

Being able to change our offense from week to week with the addition of a TO AND a Vinny as kicker from all-out offensive football or 3 yds and a cloud of dust and collecting 3 pointers is going to drive other teams up the wall potentially.

It will certainly change how teams would have to play us. But if we do it right and have the players here to do it, such as TO and Vinny, it reshuffles the deck substantially in our favor.

I say, sign Vinny and let's move to the Draft now and really get the rest of the holes filled.

Viniteri might like the idea,or atleast has become used to
playing on high caliber teams.Green Bay has no real chance
of competing for awhile, and New England, well, they're the Cowboys
of this decade, and they're starting to look picked clean.I think
Jerry, for whomever he decides, has to let go of his stubborn,"i
won't pay that kind of money for a kicker' and realize,he could
have atleast been in the playoffs, had he thought differently.Don't
make the same mistake Jerry.

Viniteri is the best kicker out there. Is he worth the money he wants? Not imho. I would rather sign Josh Brown. No kicker is worth that much money.
