Parcells has given away millions to his former players in need

Gary Myers reveals that Bill Parcells has secretly paid over $4,000,000 to 20 of his former players who were struggling financially because he believed they sacrificed to make him financially secure and there is no better way to spend the money

“Over the years, Parcells had loaned out a total of four million dollars to 20 of his former players who have come to him, I won't say destitute, but certainly having financial hardship.”

“And Bill sat down and wrote checks for about four million dollars, which to me is completely unprecedented in sports. I've never heard of anything like that. And I said, 'Bill, why would you do something like that? Why do you feel obligated?' And he explained to me that he set aside all the money he needs for, hopefully, another 30 years of his life.”

“He just turned 82. And he's given money to his three daughters and to his grandchildren, and then he has a certain amount of money left. And he says, 'What better way is there to do it than if some of my players who gave so much to me and helped make me a Hall of Fame coach and make me financially secure?”

“It was because of their hard work and me driving them to be the best they can be. They gave so much to me. Now that I'm in a position to help, and unfortunately they're in a position where they need help, why shouldn't I be the one to help?'”

“And, you know, people who remember Parcells, there's this hard-driving coach who had a love-hate relationship with his players. And now to see the transformation where he has become the patriarch of that team.”

Most former coaches, especially longtime coaches, give back....it's a bond that most appreciate and never forget. Not only money, but help with life....from buying them a car battery, paying a light bill, helping them find a job, attending a wedding, being their for his wife and kids at their funeral etc, etc....those men made his career and his money. They good ones, give back.....good for him.

A lot of the older coaches not only wanted to make better players but better men for life. Almost what good college coaches do for kids. If you look back at interviews of Lombardi's and Landry's players, their loyalty and gratitude is forever.

I just got a call from a former 6th grade student. I hired him 25 years ago. My first hire as a HC and his first job as a teacher/coach....his kids were little, now they're married with children, educated, great jobs.....he's an offensive coordinator and coaching his youngest son, that is also my God son. What a coincidence.....i read this thread and about 20 minutes later, he calls me, just to chat before practice. Most coaches at all levels have relationships like that. I had a Superintendent tell me once, "Coach, you can't save them all"....i told him, doesn't mean, I can't try.

A great man and coach. Jerry ran him out too. There would be a 2007 SB if that moron just left Bill alone.

One of the best days ever was when Jerry signed Big Bill. Loved that guy before he even came here. Loved how much he respected Tom Landry, and really appreciated the way he managed his players and teams.

Unfortunately, Jerry won't hire coaches like that unless he needs to build a stadium.
