Bill Parcells Joins ESPN; Michael Irvin on Way Out?

Although ESPN has not announced it officially, NFL Network is reporting that former Cowboys coach Bill Parcells will join ESPN as an analyst. This will be Parcells' second stint with the Worldwide Leader; he also worked there between leaving the Jets and joining the Cowboys.

I always liked Parcells during his previous tenure on ESPN's pregame show, NFL Countdown. I thought he provided a fairly high level of analysis (just a notch below Ron Jaworski), and I was impressed with how much he seemed to know about individual players. I never for a moment believed he was retired for good because the way he talked about players, you could tell he was studying them with an eye toward coaching them or coaching against them in the future.

But the best thing about this news is it's another piece of evidence that Michael Irvin is on the way out. Although their approaches couldn't be more different, the role Parcells used to play at ESPN is basically the same as the role Irvin plays now. With Parcells on board, Irvin just became even more unnecessary than he already was.

He is a perfect fit for that lot of losers cept for Irvin of course.

espn is trading up here.

Irvin has wrecked that show, the way deion did the cbs show. The two of them are worthless to listen to.

All irvin does is cheer for the cowboys and be extremely negative about everyone. In turn that makes everyone else on the set defensive and then jaworski who is great as an analyst becomes mr. eagle and then ditka chimes in with his nonsense about hating todays players etc etc.

Getting rid of irvin will make that show watchable for me. If Steve young goes away that would be great too. I like parcells, berman, jackson and jaworski.

Honestly though, I maybe watch 10 minutes of it a week at this point because of the local cowboys pregame stuff.

It is ironic that with the contempt Parcells routinely shows against the media he is coming back to be one of their cronies.

I know...isn't it ironic?

For all the players and coaches who say that they hate dealing with the media, a lot of them sure do eventually become a part of it.

Wise? His nonsense about asking to 'see' the ledgers & documentation of the NFL in their pension payments to former players made me laugh, proving his cenility. The NFL has no legal or moral obligation to show him documents just because he wants to see them. In fact, they may have legal obligation NOT to.

I for one am not impressed with his nearly unintelligable, 'no nonsense I'm old school & old and wise' garbage. He's a cranky old man who feels that because he is old, he is entitled to whatever he wants.

it's senility :D

It will interesting to hear his opinions on Dallas.

It will be especially interesting if the Cowboys win big...

;)

Well looks as though I was wrong, Michael Irvin will indeed not be back at ESPN. The show will suffer without him...

He meant the guy's a big fan of the current WWE champ... Cena-ility, or Cenility for short...

of course, that might be one of the warning signs of senility, so this might be one of those rare debates where you're BOTH right... LOL...

I mentioned that, but then my wife said he has a TV face.

I can't wait to seehow he spins Phillips having success with a team that he built, yet couldn't win a single playoff game with.

Berman: So, the Tuna's team is heading to the NFC Championship game without the Tuna. Many people in Dallas are saying that the best thing to happen to this talented group was to take the reigns off and let them play football. Which has happened. The Cowboys lead the league in sacks and are giving up a league low 82.3 yards on the ground. Julius Jones and Marion Barber have combined for over 3500 all purpose yards and T.O. leads the league again in TDs with 17. Ranked number 2 overall in Offense and number 1 overall in defense, a championship seems to be nothing more than a formality. The headscratching statisitic really, though is the fact that no wholesale changes were made on the team at all. Could Wade Phillips really be the better coach for this team? Thoughts from the Tuna.

Tuna:.............................................................

Berman:This is live Bill.

Tuna:.............................Um Thay are what they are.?
