Parson vs CB at 10

Parsons or Collins either one but LB over CB at 10. I think that we can get secondary later in draft like at 44. I’d even explore a trade up

As much as I approve of the idea of drafting Patrick Surtain, the specter of drafting Micah Parsons shines just as brightly to me!!

Surely, the notion of adding a winner of the Dick Butkus Award could add a dimension of nastiness that our MLB position has yet to see.

It's highly likely that Jerry will try like heck to get Pitts but, if no trading partner can be found he will take an OT at 10. Jerry might also trade back into the 1st round to take the
Notre Dame LB who tracks better at coverage which is the new NFL. Parsons is just a run stopping MLB.
not true the expert evaluators say hes a 3down LB prospect, ill take that over your assessment..its why hes got top 10 grade

"
Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State (+170)
Penn State's Micah Parsons is considered the top linebacker prospect in the 2021 NFL draft. The odds being posted by sportsbooks strongly indicate support to that sentiment. Parsons is a projected every-down linebacker listed at odds of -425 to be the first linebacker drafted."

Who in the heck is sportsbooks. They are not Bucky Brooks or Dane Brugler, Mike Mayock, Brian Broaddus. Those guys know LB's and consider him just a 2 down run stopper.

Parson and Surtain or Horn likely the highest rated Defensive player at 10. Most mock us to pick a CB.

I always believe player closer to the LOS makes a bigger impact. Therefore, I want Parson over a CB since neither are rebirth of Deon Sanders.

Convince me why we should take a CB at 10 instead.
We should sign KJ Wright for 5-8 million per season( hopefully 2 seasons )prior to the draft, then draft a CB at 10, or if we like one of the CB’s better than Surtain, drop down into the high teens, pick OUR top CB and get an extra pick in the 2nd.

Doesn’t Parsons still have a pending lawsuit against him?

So we have a $60 million situational pass rusher because he can’t play LB? Let’s just admit the mistake with 54 and move on.

They won't be doing that for at least one more year. Nolan will shoulder the blame for Jaylon until next year.

Taking a off the ball linebacker in the top 10 is a terrible idea
Why would a cb be a better option is the question
I’d be very town because both are needs
Both are talented options to fill those needs
My opinion is you take the CB for this simple reason
If you look at different positions on the defense you see from history you have better options of getting a solid starter at some positions more than others
I read a break down of the positions and I kinda expected position to position was fairly equal
That you odds of hitting on a LB say in the second or a CB in the second are fairly equal
And by hitting I mean a solid starter
Not a 10 time all pro because those are mostly luck picks are are much more rare
But I found a solid LB in the second, even the third have the highest probability of any position on the defense
So my argument for going CB is the odds of hitting on a CB the next round or two are lower than hitting on a LB the next round or two
That’s assuming you grade Parson and surtain/Horn fairly equal
I think most would have them fairly equal but if you see parson as a much better player, position aside, you go parson
The point is not about is parson better than Surtain
Simple that the position of LB is easier to hit later than the position of CB

It’s the same old story. Does the defensive line give the cornerbacks more time or vice a versa. I believe he get the quarterback as fast as possible and that’s what wins football games.
In a perfect world that’s true
But a pass rush can also be helped by covering up the QB first options forcing him to move to next read giving the dline more time to get to him
You really need good coverage and good pass rush
But in this draft the talent is not with the pass rushers in the slightest

First defensive player drafted

Surtain +165
Parsons +170

Big drop after these two

Surtain is pro-ready and would be paired with his old partner Diggs, and would be good value at 10.

Parsons has some value as a pass rusher— but he is basically Jaylon Smith 2.0. We already have a LBer with his most dominant skills/traits. IMO— we need more speed and coverage ability at LBer— and there are better LBer prospects than Parsons for those skills

We need any quality defensive players

I don’t think so.

If our DL plays like crap it isn't going to matter who we have at LB. Might as well pick the corner. That said, if our DL plays like they did most of 2018, and LVE stays healthy, our linebacker play would improve, and that includes J. Smith. So might as well pick the corner.

All that said I would not be upset if the drafted Parsons. I kind of like him better than the corners myself. But you asked to try to convince you. I gave it my best shot.

I think most would mock us if we DO pick a CB.

There are 2 ways to do it. Build a strong DL or DB group. Our issue is we have zero units on defense that are dominant or very strong. Taking a LB doesn't help this team hardly at all.

Best course of action would be to try to sign richardson, trade back with the pats grab horn then use 2 2nd round picks to move up to get barrmore or jaelen phillips if he falls.
