It is a gut punch to the fanbase losing a defensive playmaker in his prime, but in my opinion, team will be better in the long-run:
Ask yourself, who have the Cowboys beaten in Parsons time with the team? Got destroyed but the elite teams and padded their stats against weaker competition.
When I did a deep dive in the Cowboys run defense struggles, Parsons a big part of the reason why. The outside run to his side has consistently killed them over the last few seasons, it was far better when he played more as a linebacker early in his career. Rarely set the edge, flew up the field where teams just ran delays and didn't even have to block him. Parsons was a novice at the position learning on the fly and never could learn that outside containment was his #1 job as a DE.
Parsons never should of become a down defensive end. His body just couldn't hold up and he tend to wore down late in the season when it mattered most. He always was capped around a 13 sack player.
Is a glorified pass rush specialist worth 47 million a season? Definitely not as that is QB money. That type of contract would force the team to make very difficult decisions moving forward.
The Cowboys have to build a more balanced defense to have a chance. Yes, Parsons will be a huge loss as a pass rusher, but they do have some talent already in house. They will have the assets to need more help if needed. Adding Clark was a step in the right direction.
