Pass Rush

I'm not thrilled with Cox either... I just view him as the least of the "evils" at #14 other than DeCastro.

I'd be happier with a trade down and not have to pick anyone at #14.

Well at that point you would have to have someone who is willing to be a trade partner.

Every scenario can be talked about, but at the end of the day all we can do is wait and see. I do know though, out of all the prospects projected for us as far as pass rushers, DEs, and OL at #14.....I would probably put Cox the lowest on that list for me.

I wouldn't be disappointed if we went for Cox or Brockers. I think they would both help our d-line but if you really want BPA, I think it's Decastro. He seems like, based on what I've read, as close as you can get to a sure thing.

That's what I'm afraid of.

;)

Well some have compared Cox to Ziggy Hood or Corey Liuget, not something I want at #14.

I hope DeCastro is there at 14.

Well there are alot of others that will be there also, I don't think of this draft as DeCastro or bust at all its just that I'm not a real big fan of Cox at the moment.

On the positive, Sapp said Cox reminded him of him apparently, although I didn't hear him say that myself. Sapp might want to refer to the fact that he had 19.5 sacks in 3 years in college while Cox had 8.5 sacks.

None of the DE/OLB prospects knock my socks off... They all have "warts".

Well the difference is if a DE/OLB didn't have any warts, they would be automatically going top 5, not at #14, and thats the difference between them and DeCastro.

I don't think anyone we draft will be perfect, DeCastro does have problems moving guys who have elite power off the snap cause he isn't Thor or anything at only 312.

The biggest problem is most of the pass rushers who could take the place of Spencer will be gone in the 1st round, and all of them will be gone by the end of the 2nd round. The same can't be said of DEs, CBs, or guards.

Well then I think you'll be happy with our 1st round pick because I believe the Cowboys are thinking this way.

I certainly hope so!! I don't care if it is an OLB/DE or interior player. We someone who can bring pressure!!

Sorry about that Michael. I didn't really look.

No probs.

It was just there were plenty of good replies in the previous thread.

Don Banks and Bucky Brooks have recently mocked Quinton Coples to the Cowboys. If Coples were to fall to 14, the Cowboys would probably jump on him. Coples would give the Cowboys a young, impact defensive lineman. Dallas needs one bad, too. If the Cowboys could get the junior Coples and the guy at the Senior Bowl, they would have hit pay dirt. If you are going to take a gamble on any of the front seven defensive players in this draft (at 14), I think Coples is the best bet, imo. North Carolina's program was in complete disarray. Coples could provide a boost to the pass rush, and he could be moved around some while playing the 5 technique, too. You could put Coples' hand in the dirt and line him up wide and turn him loose, too. Coples is a guy who can be sold to me.

If you could give me Coples at 14 and trade back into the first round with New England and intercept Peter Konz before the Packers or Ravens or Colts could grab him, that would be a great draft and worth it, imo.

1. Quinton Coples DE North Carolina
1. Peter Konz C Wisconsin

Those two guys would be two huge impact trench players, and this team needs them.

I don't think Coples is a Garrett Right-Kind-of-Guy. He is almost universally regarded as not always giving 100%.

Well I would do cartwheels if that happened, don't know how likely it would be for Coples to fall that far though.

It's the offseason just before the draft, we need some fresh discussions...

Deep_Freeze;4477621 said:
Well if this thread is about pass rushers, Cox has 8.5 sacks in his entire 3 year career in college. I know the general thinking is we want a guy like JJ Watt down there, but Cox is nowhere close to JJ Watt.

He is so over rated on this board it's weird... Like that lil receiver everybody loved and he sucked... lol

Romo_To_Dez;4477643 said:
Seeing QB's have all day in the pocket was frustrating hopefully we will get the right players so that Ware isn't the only rusher that teams mainly respect and fear.

It just seemed like it was that way during crucial times of the toughest games...

DanTanna;4477673 said:
IMO we need to protect Romo like other teams protect Breeze, Brady and Manning. A really good Dallas OL and we score 14 more points a game. Last year, we lost how many games by 14+?. Yes our D sucked, but our OL was worse and Romo covered it up with his skills.

O-line has a nice band-aide on it right now with these new Vets. Get me a Top rounds 3-4 Center and a guard rounds 1-3 BPA, and a big NT please....
MichaelWinicki;4477675 said:
Agreed.

I'd love about 4 or 5 more corners, but I think #1 is going to be a front-7 person.

If I had to vote today, it would be Cox.

Then either a center/guard in either rounds 2 or 3, and whatever round they don't select an offensive lineman then it will be an OLB.

Rounds 4-7?

Corners every round. :D

A top cb could really set this thing off, especially if he can return...

Coples would be ideal. His past production and upside are both higher than Cox. I like Cox, but love Coples.

Then Irvin at 45. Cowboys would have 5 guys who can bring the QB heat in their front 7. More than the Giants 4.

I think it would be a mistake to go after Mercilus in the first round. He looks awfully slow on tape. His first step can be very sluggish, and he just isn't very explosive overall. Irvin looks like a great value in rounds 2-3. His edge rush is a thing of beauty.

how many sacks has Irvin amassed?

22.5 sacks in 2 seasons in WVU. Tested better than any other front 7 player at the combines.

Packers and Bears are going ga-ga over Irvin. He will be drafted higher than the "experts" are predicting. Much more polished than the similarly athletic Jason Williams as a pass rusher.
