Passing against our cornerbacks

Yep, I noticed that. He bit on the play action and it opened the middle of the field. We need to let our CBs stay on an Island a little more often and let Davis and/or Roy roam the middle of the field.

Me too. Let Newman, Henry and Glenn go 1v1 vs the WRs, with Davis deep. Have a LB pick up the TE and the RB and Roy roaming the field looking for the hit.

You are a very wise man Adam, but you are wrong on this one.

That was all Keith Davis on that play... Nguyen had coverage on McCardell in front of him and Davis tried to jump the route and McCardell went right past Davis for the TD.

Davis should have kept McCardell in front of him...

You are correct, and I've fixed my post.

I had to miss that part of the game, so I watched that play on Tivo. From the two angles they showed the play right then, Davis was barely even on the screen. But when they showed the wide-angle replay (which I didn't see until after reading your post and going back to watch that play again) a few minutes later during our next possession, it's clearly Davis who tried to jump the route -- and actually tripped Nguyen as Nguyen tried to stay with McCardell.

Like I said, it was a fluke play.

Davis didn't have a great game though. He, as well as Ware, seemed to be too tense. Which is understandable (more so for Ware). Ware and Davis need to start playing fast and loose. Ware needs to be less mechanical. Just let her rip. If you're gonna screw up, screw up going 100 mph.

Thanks Adam very interesting stats. unfortunately some people will still say Newman was torched all day.

lets give the man a chance, its only the first game. And by the numbers it looks like he did pretty good, right? I like our secondary as a hole, but the free safety spot still makes me nervous

But Adam, Newman sucks.

Didn't you see some pass completion on the other side of the field? Or a completion because a safety was in the wrong spot in coverage? All Newman.

In all seriousness, great stats as always.
Poor Newman. The guy just can't catch a break. Too bad so many have deep, engrained opinions that the guy "sucks".

Its astonishing the amount of carte blanche Roy gets compared to Newman.

What exactly is he responsible for? Nobody knows.
I don't know, blowing people up ? Seems to do a fair job of that game in and game out.

I agree Rack and after one game big edge to Henry as the best Cowboy corner .
I am not and never was I a Newman hater. I think he is a solid player, but not a star.

Did you ever consider that the reason Henry had so many thrown at him was that Newman had his man blanketed? Just a thought.

Good stats Adam. I was shocked that San Diego didn't try to run more and started testing our corners after they trampled us on that opening touchdown drive. Don't go against our talented veteran secondary, it's the strength if there ever was one. Either run against that new 3 man line, or try and confuse those young linebackers.

I have a question. the completions to Mcardell, the 2 TD's....it looked like those may have been partly or mostly safety blowing coverage. and some of those short passes they were completing early...shouldnt that have been LB job to defend.

Looking at 12 tackles by Henry, and most of those tackles were ones he came up to make, doesnt that suggest LB's need to do better job covering the short routes.

I dont have the option of going back and reviewing the game, anyone want to comment on those two points.

I can tell you that one of 'em was real obvious busted coverage by Davis, but I won't go too hard on him because it was his hit at the end of the game that kept McCardell from holding on to that ball and allowed us to win.

Thanks for the stats Adam. Quite frankly i thought Newman was burned more then that but i guess i was wrong.
