Pathetic Offense Last 2 Games. 6.5 PPG? Some sad facts

How sad is it to see the offense sucking, when the Cowboys finally have a good defense (currently #6 in the NFL)?

Against Tampa Bay, the Cowboys defense scored 7 points on the fumble return, and essentially scored another 7 with the Tampa turnover deep in the red zone. On its own, the Cowboys offense scored just 13 points- against one of the worst defenses in the league (Tampa defense ranked #24). Tampa's D gives up an average of 28.7 points per game.

The previous week, against a defense that gives up an average of 21.8 points per game, the Cowboys offense scored zero.

In the last 2 games, the Cowboys offense has essentially scored an average of 6.5 points per game.

The possible culprits (GM, coaches, players) have been discussed ad nauseam. Regardless, this offense is not inspiring confidence for a play-off run.

Nevertheless, enjoy these last 2+ games. It will be the off-season before you know it!

Don't forget another 3 pts were setup by ST and the offense actually went backwards before the long fg.

It’s frustrating that this team just can’t get it all together at the same time. First, they were all pass, with no consistent run game and no defense. Then they got the run game and the quarterback got hurt, still no defense. Now they’ve finally got the defense and still have the running game and the passing game isn’t there.
Consistency is key, if we can find that in the new season (playoffs) we will be unstoppable.

But Jason Garrett is a great coach.

I read it right here.

That's revisionist history. First of all, when the defense scores (which is, by the way, a good thing) it takes away an opportunity to score for the offense, takes away time of possession, and other performance statistics.

Secondly, you can't "uncount" a score by the offense on a short field. While the defense set it up, the offense did score.

Third, you have to consider situational football. The offense goes into a very conservative mode once the game becomes out of reach of the other team because ball protection becomes more important at that point.

The offense is a bit lethargic. That much is undeniable. There is enough to complain about on offense without making things up to attempt to make a fallistic argument in favor or your position.

Team was orginally built around our OL and we know the deal there. We know we are defensive team now which mean getting off the field on 3rd downs were we are terrible. Hopefully it comes together in the playoffs

This is a defensive team and that's how we will win games.

Just accept that our weakness is offense and our strength is defense.

It's kind of encouraging in a way... if the offense gets just hot enough to be called "average", the defense can carry this thing the rest of the way. We don't need much.

I've got Dallas at 50/50 odds to win it all if the offense puts up 21 each postseason game. That's not much but I think it's enough that this team has coin flip odds of winning it all.
Awesome, I'd like the see the defense score 23 points a game the rest of the way since this is a defensive team. We can tell the offense to go home.

One year we have offense no defense. Now we have defense no offense. The cat and mouse to unbearable.

Not lying by saying we have had a few short or longer stretches of some the worst offensive production in Dallas Cowboys history during the past two seasons

That 3 game stretch last year was record breaking in its crappiness.
We've had a couple short stretches this year too.

Adding Cooper helped, but then DCs did what they always do...adjusted.

Basically we're going to give up 20 points in our first play-off game and everyone will blame the defense when we're watching the divisional round because our offense couldn't score.

Dallas plays a slow lethargic ball-control offense. When you play that way, scoring is not at a premium. Add to that, the offensive line keeps causing so many penalties, it's unprecedented. Every big play, nope, holding. Nope, illegal block in the back, nope, false start, it always happens. Just watch the games and see. Then they over compensate the next play by allowing the rusher to go straight in...

If I'm Jerry Jones, I hire the best offensive line coach in the world next off season, along with draft nearly all offensive and defensive linemen. We just need help in those places again.

IT seemed like when Cooper got here the offense got better. Seems like these last two games the offense has suffered.

I agree that the big play component of our offense go better, much better in fact. But it looked to me like the red zone issues have remained just that, an issue, despite everything that Cooper has certainly brought to the table. And now, these past two games, even Cooper's production has suffered.

It's frustrating to watch because at one point or another, virtually every component of this offense has shown their capability. But inevitably, it never seems to come together in the red zone and scoring touchdowns.

Pathetic use of statistics. One game was a shutout and you've got an obviously small sample

Yeah the redzone problems seem to be consistent. Which is odd. It seemed like the redzone offense in 2016 in Zeke and Dak's rookie year was phenomenal. There's a disconnect somewhere. I'm not willing to just put it all on Linehan. Seems like a collective effort. The days of getting to the 3 or 4 yard line and getting a field goal are over. That's just not gonna cut it unless our defense is going to limit everyone to under 10 points.

We had a fantastic red zone receiver in Dez Bryant and a huge 6'5 TE with amazing hands in Jason Witten. Cooper and Gallup will be enough outside eventually, it's the middle of the field and the health of the OL that are killing the running game in the red zone.

Are you sure? Cause I just read another weekly (when we win) "Roll" of an analysis that says the team's really coming together for a playoff run.

Are you sure? Cause I have seen lots of posts that say the Cowboys will lose to the Eagles(x2), the Falcons and the Saints written mainly by someone named Risen Star. Maybe he is now a fallen star ha?

I guess so, who was on the o-line in 2016? A mostly healthy T. Smith, Ron Leary, Frederick, Martin and Collins. Smith, Frederick and Martin were all Pro Bowlers. Add to that a HOF tight end in Witten.

Now we have a gimpy Smith, a third string LG, a backup center, Martin (thankfully) and Collins, who is pretty much the same last year, which is to say pretty good, but hardly at Pro Bowl level. And a rookie and two second year tight ends (one a converted basketball player).

This team is set up to be a running team, which requires either a Barry Sanders or a very top notch offensive line. Zeke's good, but he's not a Sanders-type runner, extremely elusive (very few are, of course). The fact that the offense isn't scoring much is hardly surprising...
