Patrick Crayton

we just paid Roy a 9 mill bonus.

We are not cutting him right now.

Get the **** over it.

Watch the ********* language around here.

He's not going to see the field and he still has some value. Not trading him would be crazy.

Age, cost, and the fact that they paid Roy Williams so much money and now drafted Dez Bryant. That is why Crayton became expendable.

Crayton is a solid player. Unfortunately most teams know we have a bunch of players at WR now, so they will wait till/if we cut him, unless injury causes some desperation on their part.

The Cowboys have also hit on dumping veterans and playing the younger guys, with the TO/Austin and Ellis/Spencer moves, and I think they want to give Bryant a quick start, and also see if Oggletree is capable of making the next step. Both are very hard to do if you play Crayton.

Despite Crayton's 2 returns for TD's last year, I would prefer a more dangerous punt returner anyway. Generally sure handed, he does bobble a few, and often fair catches when there seems to be plenty of chance to run back 5-10 yards at least. Again, solid, but not really a "weapon". I think we might have a weapon or two to try out now at Punt Return as well with Bryant and the CB/Safety we drafted, so another reason Crayton becomes expendable.

They will likely keep him until something happens either with Cowboys or another team in terms of injury or slow development, etc.

I can't understand why the Cowboys put Crayton on the trading block. I can understand Hurd....
How does Crayton get on the field?

Aside from a 4 WR set, he doesn't.

He won't be returning kicks any more and he offers no special teams production.

Hurd is still a very good special teams player.

Therefore Hurd has a higher value to the Cowboys than Crayton.

And as the others said, Roy11 isn't going any where. And it's not just because of the money.

I'm a Crayton fan. I'll be sad to see him go when, and if, he winds up leaving. He's been a quality WR for this franchise but this is the nature of the business in the NFL.

There will be no snaps for Crayton for the near future. He will be at best the number four WR and possibly the number five. Even if RW tanks for the first part of the year he's not getting those snaps. Bryant will get them.

Worse than that but he will take someones roster spot. Someone like the kid from Elon say. That's the really big deal.

We need Crayton on the team, if for no other reason than the two Giants games. Someone has to do the trash talking :laugh2:

Damn Job, kid has not even see a play in mini camp and already you've got that cat in your lap.

Sunk cost, the money is already gone. Who would help this team more,
Roy or Patrick? That is the only question that matters.

I'm sure most of the board agrees with you in theory. Reality is Jerry gonna keep RW around another year whether we like it or not. He should have decent year as opposing D's will have their hands full covering the other more reliable options. He should have alot of favorable matchups as teams likely roll coverage to Miles, Dez, Witten.

Not going to see the field? Crayton had better numbers than Roy from the slot position and he probably was on the field for a third less plays.

73% of his catches went for 1st downs.

He averaged 16.8 yards a catch from the slot.

He tied for most TD's on punt returns in the NFL, including one of the longest at 82 yds, 6 @20+ yards and 2 over 40+.

Yeah, he won't get a snifff of the field. Just plug ol" Roy in at the slot and let it roll.

Dez will be the #3 as long as Roy is still the #2. Unless Roy get's cut/traded, Crayton will be #4 competing with Ogletree. I'd like to see PC in the slot with while Dez is the #2 but by all accounts that's not going to happen this year. Even once Dez becomes the #2 Ogletree could likely do the job in slot.

Losing Crayton would be foolish. He's the most proven wr we have right now...

That's ridiculous.

Ok, name one other wr that has proven he's legit for more than one season on our roster...

Let's list the receivers that have had at least 700 yards in their career, college or professional. Guess who doesn't show up on that list?

Guess who does? EVERY OTHER RECEIVER ON THE TEAM.

Edit: Well, him and KO.

I'll give you this - Crayton is the guy on our roster that you most know what you're getting with him. He's super steady in being what he is.

With that said, you cant create any WR list here without Austin atop it. Austin, in one season, has proven far superior to Crayton. Even if Austin doesn't match last year's performance, you know you are getting a better player than Crayton.
