Production- game in and game out?

Dale, I've been around here long enough not to get into a pissing match with you about stats. And one could argue that there is no expectation of consistency for a third receiver (fourth if you include Witten). But he had four catches in his first four games (zero catches in two of them).

He was a third-down converting machine before the injury and he'd simply won me over as someone who could be a great #2. T.O. came and his role is what it is. I was at the game today and saw he played well and filled the void left by Glenn. Good for us.

Who WAS productive with Bledsoe starting though? Not to turn this into a pissing match about quarterbacks, but everyone's production was down.

I mean, we had posts asking if Witten was distracted or letting up since he got paid.

Perhaps we've just had different expectations for him. You mentioned expecting him to potentially be a great No. 2. I'll agree with your current -- revised, perhaps -- assessment that he won't be that. I still think he makes a pretty solid No. 3.

Throwing stats out the window, he just seems to catch the ball well and fights for first downs.

I think part of the problem has been who has been behind the center.

Funny how Romo comes in and Witten Production goes way up Crayton Production goes way up. The oline olays better not great but better.

Heck even TO's production has gone up

Well, you made the point I just made above. Should have checked your post first. :)

With Bledsoe, we had an underachieving prima donna at receiver, an underachieving tight end, the league's worst offensive line and an invisible No. 3 wideout. Again, not to pile on, but...

And Romo wasn't even drafted!

----We might as well start "giving" our draft choices away like the Deadskins, who needs em'----we can fill with UDFA's

But in all seriousness, isnt it great to crow about these "finds"----so many of the all time Cowboys greats were: Drew Pearson, Bill Bates etc

Kudos to Ireland and BP, trickle some to Jerry of course:rolleyes:

Well...
with Romo playing like he is...we probably don't have to take a 1st round QB
with Glenn looking like he may be finished...do we take a WR?
What about Hurd, Crayton, Austin, etc?
Maybe a Ted Ginn to solve our KR/PR problems?
Perhaps we get a Steve Breaston purely for STs in late 2 or early 3 instead of Ginn?
Perhaps we take OT Jake Long from Michigan in round 1?
I think we probably go for OL round 1 but there are so many STUD WRs in this draft...I'd love to see us jump up and get someone like Calvin Johnson or a speed guy like Steve Smith.
Crayton is awfully good, but hate to rely on him as #2 full time. If Hurd plays well the rest of the season, maybe we don't even consider a WR....
Interesting to see how all that plays out.

BPA....always.

But, I wouldn't say no to a WR or OT.

I honestly think we go into this draft without a GLARING weakness. Our OL is the biggest weakness, but they're playing a lot better.

OL in the 1st is dumb OL talent is hard to gauge and the talent separating 1st rd from 7th is small when it comes to OL. Ask the raiders and the plethora of other teams that have drafted top notch OL in the 1st round.

Other than TNew, our CB play always makes me nervous. Especially the deep ball. As close to a shut down CB as there is available in the first would be great witih me.

Crayton reminds me of a young Chris Carter formerly of the Vikings, never a real threat to take it all the way but comes up with the big catch. Crayton needs to secure the ball I agree, it almost cost the Cowboys big time today!

I like Craytons ability to run routes and catch the ball but he always seems afraid of contact to the point where it detracts from his game.
