Patrick Peterson Declares for Draft...Welcome to Dallas

I think a guy like PP could make a lot of bad safeties look good. Great speed and ball skills. IMO

Antrel Rolle and Malcomb Jenkins were both drafted at CB and now play saftey.

Rolle was drafted as a CB when things did not go well at CB they moved him to safety

The Arizona Cardinals selected Rolle with the eighth pick of the 2005 NFL Draft, making him the second cornerback picked. (Pacman Jones was taken sixth by the Tennessee Titans).

Rolle's career did not start off well mainly because of torn cartilage in his left knee suffered September 25, 2005 in a game against the Seattle Seahawks. The torn cartilage required surgery on October 3, 2005 and put Rolle out for almost the entire 2005 NFL season.

Rolle returned and played on December 11, 2005 against the Washington Commanders, where he recorded his first interception and returned it for 29 yards. He played in week 14 and again in week 15 against the Houston Texans.

The 2007 campaign did not start well for Rolle as he lost his starting spot in the preseason.[1] However, he battled back and had the highlight of his career on November 18 when he intercepted 3 passes by Carson Palmer of the Cincinnati Bengals, returning the first two for touchdowns of 55 and 54 yards. He returned the third interception all the way to the end zone as well, but it was called back on a penalty.[2][3] Rolle was rewarded for his performance when he was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week.[4] Rolle finished the season with 61 tackles, 5 interceptions, and three return touchdowns. His interception total was tied for ninth most in the NFL. Cardinals Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt announced on February 2008 that Rolle will be moved to free safety for the 2008 season.

Malcomb Jenkins pretty much the same deal

Jenkins was the first cornerback to be taken by the Saints in the first round since Oregon's Alex Molden went at No. 11 in the 1996 NFL Draft.[10] On August 9, 2009 the Saints agreed to terms with Jenkins on a five-year, $19 million contract.[11]

Jenkins started his first career game due to injuries to Jabari Greer and Tracy Porter during week 11 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He finished the game recording seven tackles and his first career interception off of Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman.

Jenkins was moved to free safety for the 2010 season, originally with the intent of backing up starting free safety Darren Sharper; he became a starter after Sharper was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform ("PUP") list to start the season, and continued to receive substantial playing time even after Sharper returned from his injury.

Hey, im not trying to argue. Im just saying i don't see many 6'1" 220+ lb. CB's around the NFL.

Certainly there can be exceptions, but i think the fluidity of PP's hips and his ability to be able to turn and run with some of the speedier receivers in the NFL will be a major question.

That's a big dude to try and make quick breaks and cuts.

Yet he seems to do it very well to the point he is one of the highest rated defensive players in this draft. He may end up at safety if things do not work out at CB but teams normally do not take a guy that high in the draft and then turn around and start him in an unfamiliar position.

Most guys who have converted to another position were either later rd picks or guys who started 3 or 4 years at their natural position before making a switch

Arizona at 5 would be perfect. Offer them our 3rd round pick. Take our 2nd rounder and trade down in the 2nd picking a 3rd back up.

Just a friendly "chide" my friend, but we would probably be drafting at about #5 if we had lost another game or two. :) (Yes, I'm one of those who wanted to see us "tank" a few. :) (It's all in fun, and it is irrelevant anyway, because we didn't do that). We wouldn't have to give up a 3rd to get to #5.

There has really been one guy successfully make the transition in the NFL: Rod Woodson.

And then there's Alan Ball.

Maybe we should consider an undersized linebacker like Darren Woodson was.

Unless some dirt in revealed on Peterson I don't see him falling to our pick.

Someone make something up then!! News travels fast on the Internet!! :D
