LSU CB Patrick Peterson declares for NFL draft

1/10/2011 3:00:00 PM

Randy Rosetta of the Baton Rouge Advocate reports Patrick Peterson, LSU’s star cornerback and return man is headed to the 2011 NFL Draft. Peterson made his decision official Monday at a press conference.

“I will be entering the 2011 draft,” Peterson said succinctly.

With a potential lockout looming in the NFL, Peterson might not get on the field as quickly as he wants next season. But the draft will go on as scheduled in April, and the 6-foot-1, 222-pound junior is projected as a top-five pick. “I might not ever be in this position again,” Peterson said. “I thought it was a no-brainer to enter the draft now, while I'm still young.”

I really hope we get to welcome him to Dallas.

Wont complain if we take him at 9, but there's no way I'd trade up to get him after what I've seen from him this year. I also think there's bigger issues on the team than CB.

I think he could make a successful conversion to safety.

Why would he want to convert to safety. Top CB's make more than Top safeties

I think he'd make a pretty good FS as well, and I actually think he'd have more of an impact at that position vs CB.

I personally would not trade up to get him. Actually, if he, Prince, Dareus, Fairly, or the Clemson DE, are not on the board when we pick at 9, I am all for trading back and maybe picking up JJ Wyatt DE from Wisconsin and adding a 3rd or maybe a 2nd.

If we get a safety I would just as soon get a safety if we get Peterson I would leave him at his natural position.

I'm curious, Hos, who you would trade with and how much you would give.
Arizona at 5 would be perfect. Offer them our 3rd round pick. Take our 2nd rounder and trade down in the 2nd picking a 3rd back up.

Not sure why you'd want to take the Jim Thorpe award winner and put him at a different position than what he won the award at.

That'd be like taking Gabe Carimi and moving him to linebacker because "we have a need there."

You, sir, are in Arizona...pick up that phone!

Hopefully the teams with the Top 8 picks scout exactly like the majority of this board and will judge him off 1 bowl game.

CB and S aren't too different.

It's like changing between OT and OG in my opinion.

They're so much more different than you could imagine, coming from someone that played both positions.

Why do we still have people who think its the players who decide where they play?

If we draft him.. he'll play where we want him to play.

Also, if we trade up to Arizona's 5 pick, im thinking its going to cost more than a 3rd.

I like him, but I'm not sure I like the idea of trading up too much. His stock probably went up a tick more with Jenkins staying in school as well.

Arizona may be looking to recoup some early draft picks. Popular rumors are they will try to acquire McNabb (4th rounder?) or Kevin Kolb (2nd rounder?) .

CB and S are polar opposites. The only similarity is the fact that their both part of the same unit...
