The Patriots announced today that they've hired Dom Capers as their secondary coach, replacing the deposed Joel Collier.
The Cowboys had Capers to Valley Ranch to speak about a position as a defensive assistant, but the coach pulled out of the running in loyalty to DC Brian Stewart, who worked for Capers in Houston.

Yeah, Wade, don't hurt Stewart's feelings by having a real coach around the defense.

Unbelievable!

In my opinion, Capers sucks just as bad as Campo. Here's the Defensive DVOA rankings for Capers' teams since 2002:

2007 - 32
2006 - 7
2005 - 32
2004 - 18
2003 - 28
2002 - 20

He took over a talented defense in Miami (ranked 7th in '06, 10th in '05, and 7th in '04) and turned them into literally the worst defense in the league.

He lives off his reputation from the 90s, which is about all you can say for Campo. I just can't see why anyone would think he's better than Campo. They both have about a .300 winning percentage as head coaches.

Interesting...

And when Garrett hires his own staff being our DC will be a promotion for Capers ......

:rolleyes::p:
you do realize don't you that if Jason is our HC after next year its because something went terribly wrong and we didn't make the playoffs or at least didn't win a game in the playoffs. I'm hoping Wade is still our coach in 2010 because that means we made the super bowl in 2009.

Capers is overrated... I believe Campo is a heck of a defensive coach, he'll have the young guys coached up.

Campo and Maxie are good additions in their own right

Campo has been a successful DB coach and D coordinator, and Maxie seems to be an up and coming coach

As if I needed another reason to despise that chump.

No offense... But what a stupid thing to say. Why would you despise Brian Stewart?

And as some of us have argued, and theogt just pointed out again, Capers is nothing special. How he got this guru-like reputation with some people, I'll never know.

Capers or campo?

Talk amongst yourselves

Has Capers ever been a secondary coach? I thought he was more of a linebackers coach. If so, then I think Campo is better as the position coach for the secondary.

I do think Capers brings better value because of his knowledge of overall defense and schemes. Especially since he does things a little differently than Wade Phillips scheme wise. I thought it could make for a nice mix.

The Miami defense got old and several positions and also had poor talent, so I don't think what Capers did there proves too much about him. Plus if he did come to Dallas there was a chance he was not going to be the DC, but rather an assistant or consultant. He would not have been the main guy, but rather another asset. He can help the Patriots. Of course they will be facing what Miami faced. They are getting older on defense and may have to replace some talent with young unproven guys who may or may not be as talented.

Actually when he was being talked about here they reported he had never coached LBs, but had coached secondary, DL and of course was a DC, so because of that he would know LB assignments.
