I am tired of the "he needs to show last year was not a fluke" folks. He is a cornerstone player and the heart of the defense. You dont trade up to get him, develop him into a top 5 pass rusher, and let him walk. Just ask the Raiders how that worked out. Just pay the man.

100% agree. He’s a stud and young and has many years ahead of him. Legit.

Well like everything else they screwed the pooch on that one. IIRC since he was franchised a deal cannot be struck until the off season

He can't be resigned until after the end of the season.

There is a deadline teams have to workout long term deals with franchise tagged players, and that deadline passed last month.

He will get his if he performs. Not worried as he wants to be here. He is making 3x this year what he made his entire career on the FT.

So what!?

It’s still the right call

You don’t make a player the highest paid at his position because of one great season. Especially when the other 3 are riddled with inconsistency, suspensions and injuries.

No one in their right mind could say the Cowboys made the wrong decision with Lawrence especially if what he was supposedly asking for is legit.

Yes, I realize this. I just am making the point that it should be the first order of the offseason

2017 wasnt even his breakout year. 2015 was. He just had a lost season in 2016 with the suspension and injuries. People pretend he was a one year wonder. He had 7 or 8 sacks over the 2nd half of 2015

Yup, he was good in 2015, very good in 2017 and hopefully even better in 2018. Price tag just keeps going up.

Under old rules yes. But with today's rookie deals the good ones show up in years 3 or 4 which means in a lot cases it is contract year. Remember only 1_st rounders get 5 year deals everyone else gets 3-4 years.
