Pearl Jam vs. Stone Temple Pilots

IDk guys i always thought Alice in Chains were much better then the both of them.

+1. I've always liked them better than the others, with Soundgarden pulling in behind Alice. Never a Pearl Jam fan, but STP is pretty rockin'.

I'm not sure what you're trying to get at here. ACL and Lollapalooza are as big or bigger than Sonisphere in terms of attendance.

Then you keep them and I'll keep Sonisphere.
And remember what are they driven by....I heard snake charmers are headlining Coachella next year. The guy who swallows swords married the bearded lady, and they no longer tour, just to give you an idea of what really those "music" festivals are all about. One musical act,and hundreds of freak shows.

I was never the biggest Pearl Jam fan. Don't hate them, just not a big fan of them.

Always liked Soundgarden and AIC better.

So I will go with STP

Oh by the way, don't know if many remember but STP originally came out with this song before the others hit big and this song does not sound like Pearl Jam...

I love Pearl Jam's first two albums. The third album was good but they never reached the level of the 1st two albums again. Having said that, I think they're great (especially live) and definitely better than STP. STP is very good. I love Sex Type Thing and a few of their other songs. When I first bought Core I thought they definitely were borrowing from other grunge band sounds at the time with the exception of Sex Type Thing. That song was unique and it rocked. I think it was their best song. However, that song did NOT come out before the other bands hit it big which is why they were considered a bit of a copycat.

Having said all of that, I think Soundgarden might have been the best band of that era. AIC are definitely worthy of mention as well. Nirvana was great too of course.

I thought AIC did a pretty solid job with the album that came out a year or so ago. If you're an AIC fan it's defiinitely worth checking out if you haven't already. Soundgarden is back together and working on a new album. They're touring this summer too. I'm definitely going to see them again. Cornell's voice is one of the all-time greats.

Man, I miss those days. So much great stuff in the ealry 90's: Pearl Jam, AIC, Soundgarden, STP , Nirvana, NIN, Smashing Pumpkins, Ministry, RHCP, RATM, White Zombie, Pantera, Metallica's Black album....Dallas winning Super Bowls....sigh...

That was the last great period of music. I'll be 40 in January. Man, that mid-life crisis is kicking into gear. :(

They both rock but gotta give the edge to PJ....

Seriously, you can't answer this question. It's like asking, which is better, bacon or steak?

Is that why they had DEVO onstage in 2010?...

Someone with the name "MetalHead" is bemoaning grunge rock music? Say it ain't so!

And to say it didn't last long seems silly. Grunge rock has more influence on today's rock than any other genre. Hell, much of the stuff released today could have been released 20 years ago and sounded perfectly natural.

Check out the Billboard rock charts. Oh, hey, look David Grohl at #1! That's pesky Nirvana kids won't last long at all!

Actually, Grunge stole from heavy metal accompanied with crappy clothes...

The Heavy Metal genre dates back to the 60's...

Not really and no.

Zeppelin, sabbath and purple all considered heavy metal bands at the time all got their starts in the late 60s.

As far as grunge having great musicians that is debatable.
And dave grohl sucked in nirvana and he sucks now.
If the foo fighters or nickeback is the best we can do then we are doomed.

Let me guess this one...you play better than EVH,therefore your opinion carries more weight than others, just like every other subject.
Lets see:
Football Genius.
Thermonuclear engineering genius.
Musical Genius.
Looks to me that the only thing you are unfamiliar with is when to be quiet.

I guess the lesson to be learned here is that if I have an opinion and it's different than yours, I should just be quiet. Gotcha.

Now, remind me, who was accused of being the opinion police in this thread?

If that is your interpretation of it,I suggest you double back and read the thing again, because on post #27 I lay it down very simple.
Matter of taste.
But when you begin your sanctimonious mini crusade "correcting" people here, you sir gave yourself unearned title and license to police the site and deeming your personal opinions as matter of fact.
You are wrong.

Have a nice day.
