The Zone poll yielded the following results:
14+ wins: 1.3%
13 wins : 1.0%
12 wins : 5.9%
11 wins : 33.4%
10 wins : 36.3%
9 wins : 16.5%
8 wins : 3.1%
7 wins : 1.5%
6 wins : 0.5%
5- wins : 0.5%

So if we only win 8 games, we will have done worse than 94.4% of Zoners predicted at the start of the year.

If we only win 9 games, we will have done worse than 78.9% of Zoners predicted.

In other words, we will have performed far below the expectations of the board members unless we win our last 2 games.

The thing that is most shameful about is that most people who made these predictions expected a rocky start but thought the team would gel in the second half as a prelude to a SB run next year.

Of course-noone expected Flo, Dat, Henry, nor Al to get hurt either.

Every team loses players - that is a cop out.

None of those players are world beaters.

Fans tend to be optimistic in their preseason predictions, and they usually don't count on major injuries to starters. If you had told each one of those voters the injuries we would suffer, I'm guessing most of them would lower their expectations by a game or two, if not more.

It's not a cop-out, it's the reason most people have higher expectations than what happens. If every team polled their fans before the season, the majority of the teams would finish below their fans' expectations. Like I said, fans don't expect players to suffer major injuries.

You have a point but you also can't expect to go through a season injury free. It just doesn't happen. Having depth makes a big difference.

Loss of Henry was offset by A Glenn's play.
Loss of Crayton was supposed to have been mollified by P Price - didn't happen.
Loss of Nguyen - well some would claim he as a poor fit in the 3-4 and many predicted he would not last the year. They were right.
Loss of Flo has been huge - no depth at OT.

Other teams seem to manage to get by - Giants switched their OL around this week and lost their defensive leader, Pierce. Then they went out and whipped the Chiefs.

Ultimately, it's NOT HOW MANY injuries you have, it's WHO you lose.

Sure-the Pats won 3 Super Bowls being under-manned. But if Rodney Harrison were hurt last year, would they even have made the AFC Title game? Or what if the Pats' OL was injured?

When does that ever happen?

Maybe you don't expect it for a particular player, but to expect it for the entire team is ridiculous.

i agree, i predicted 11-5 but when flo went down i knew it was going to be rough season. when a starter like flo goes down and you replace him with a guy like tucker that hurts the whole line not just the tackle position it runs down the whole line

Dat was actually the difference in the first Skins games though. And he IS one of our team captains. He loss was huge either way.

Either way-that blind-sided T lost is huge REGARDLESS. When the Pats lost the left side of their line for weeks, Belichick had no choice but to insert rookies. The thin OL depth is no different than from what it was 15-20 years ago.

Other teams seem to manage to get by - Giants switched their OL around this week and lost their defensive leader, Pierce. Then they went out and whipped the Chiefs.

[/quote]

They also gave up googles of yards to LJ, and Eli was still rushing his throws. They got lucky 'cuz their opponent was the Chiefs.

Parcells gambled on Rogers - a gamble that was medically ill-advised.

More than half the board knew not to expect anything from Rogers except an injury. The whole scouting staff pleaded with him at the 2004 draft not to pick him because he was soft and had a bad injury history.

The fact that Rogers busted is the reason why Petitti started and also why we didn't pick up another capable OT in the offseason.

Fans have pretty ridiculous expectations, if you haven't noticed.

Don't know why everyone is slamming Parcells for not having much OL depth.

This was no different from 20 years ago(that non salary cap/FA era, that is). Rarely were there any teams that had OL depth. When the Skins got hit with injuries in this area, they looked more like the hog-lets than the hogs.

I agree with you. However-I believe this poster was talking about that blind-sided T position.

Doesn't matter how great your line is, that blind-side is the most important one for the QB so he doesn't have to worry about that 300pder breathing down him. This was why Mark Brunell was awful last year-Janson was out for the entire season. Now he's back for them.

The poster claimed this team is performing according to the expectation of the whiny board member when the truth is they may very well underperform 80-95% of the board's expectations.

Whether what the fans believe is reasonable - I don't know.

I called for an optimistic 9-7. If we can beat St. Louis at home (very reasonable) then we will at least meet my expectations.

My objection is that this team really fizzled down the stretch which is exactly the opposite of what I expected and why I am so disappointed. I hoped we would be closer than we appear to be right now.

I didn't say I agreed with him that we're performing up to everyone's expectations. We're performaing below most people's expectations. But most people's expectations are higher than they should be.

I would agree with that statement.

Well here's my expectations.

Not to get beat By the Commanders by 28 points with the Playoffs on the line after you dominated them the last time until 4 minutes to go and then lost by only a point!

The largest loss to the Commanders EVER....With the playoffs on the line?

Everyone of the Cowboys including the Coaches and Owner should have a foot stuck up their azz tonight!

All of those players could just be good players on a team constantly stymied by an o-line.
