I mentioned this a while ago, but look back at rookie pass rushers and what their production is in their first year. Also look at where they are drafted as well.

It hurts to have him gone, period. Now the question will be who can produce those numbers while he's out?

Its a long season, the Rookie needs to heal and watch game tape as much as possible.....he will be ok.... come back with fresh legs and a high motor for the December butt kicking that Philly will get...

He'll be fully healthy by week 6 and ready to contribute to the Super Bowl run.

I agree it's bad he'll miss all of camp and the preseason, but this kid is a gifted athlete. The Cowboys can use him as a situational pass rusher from mid-October on (assuming he's healthy by then) and he can still have a positive impact. From what I've heard about Lawrence so far is the kid is big on film study. He'll stay around the team and focus in on what's going on.

Agreed.

Being the weakside end in this scheme isn't "rocket surgeon" intelligence necessary... ESPECIALLY when you're the nickel pass rusher. The kid's big problem when he comes back will be getting into football shape. He probably won't be good for more than a dozen snaps per game the first couple weeks.

One slight positive note is that rookies quite often hit "the wall" 3/4 into the season... they simply aren't ready for the long season. Well with him being out 8-10 weeks he probably won't be burned out by week 13.

He is a ROOKIE.....when is the last time a ROOKIE wrecked havoc as a pass rush specialist......Rookies are not franchise saviors.....Cowboys need Melton, Selvie, McLain and Mincy to produce.....the ROOKIE is 2-3 years away from a 10 sack plus year....

von miller , javon Kearse , aldon smith, robert quinn to name a few

It started when Woicik returned. It might have to do with the weight training regimen.

It would be safe to say that putting money in ensuring that injuries don't happen is just as important as having a great coaching staff. Most teams that have healthy and injury free lineup has a better chance of making it to the playoffs than a injury riddled team like ours. If Woicik with this weight training is the problem, I would not hesitate a New York second to can his ***.

Those names are some of the best of the best at getting to the QB. Tough standards to live up to.......Time will tell with DLAW.....but I am not anointing him the franchise savior......At this point I will be happy as long as he is productive.....anything more is a bonus..

they all had productive rookie years, if Dlaw could come back and get 6-8 sacks that would be outstanding

I don't see him getting enough snaps to get to a half-dozen sacks.

Even before the injury, he was probably looking at 500-600 snaps.

Now with missing 2-4 games, plus taking it easy for a couple more games if he gets in 400 snaps he'll be fortunate.

A sack per 100 snaps would be good.

Nice point of reference...good share.

On Talkin' Cowboys, they seemed to be under the impression Lawrence was on his way to a starting gig sooner rather than later.

Even a starting "gig" isn't going to get a guy a 1,000 snaps in this defensive line... Not under the rotation system.

Seattle's leading defensive lineman last season when it came to snap count was Michael Bennett and he only had 617. They had 6 other guys get from 488 to 585 snaps on the season.

I think the "long story short" with this thread is that we CAN'T afford injuries to the Defensive side of the Ball. and Now before the first Week of training camps up we are with out our Starting MLB and our Projected Starting Rush DE.

and we're not even a week into the "season"

Say what you want, we can't afford anymore losses. I don't think we could afford that loss!

Anyone expecting the kid to be Ware from Week 1 was going to be disappointed.

I hope they don't rush him back from this in 8 weeks. At his position, it'd be very easy to have a relapse.

No one said anything about 1,000 snaps. The 1,000+ snap club is pretty limited, so that was never in play - not for a DL anyway.

I don't think we disagree on expectations for Lawrence, (I'm on record saying 8 sacks would be fantastic) I just happen to think 500 - 600 snaps is actually a high number, so even if you slash that in half, he should hopefully still be able to muster 4 - 6; assuming he plays as billed once he's healthy.

I'm also on record as saying sacks are way overrated though (although sack-fumbles are greatly underrated), I'll gladly take pressures.
