Leave it alone. Let them whine and cry about not getting a chance; that is why its called SUDDEN DEATH. Anything can do it on any play; that is what makes it so exciting. All this lets be fair BS is just that- TOTAL BS. Nothing is ever completly fair and trying to make it so is just plain stupid. More of this crap about no one really losing and so on; makes me want to throw up. Just like all those stupid rules protecting the QB. PLAY THE GAME AND WHOEVER SCORES FIRST WINS. JUST like it has been ever since the NFL began.

I agree...until ST is no longer a part of the game there is nothing wrong with winning by a FG. The other team still has to stop them from kicking that FG.

Sounds too confusing.
How confusing is it? It basically says first team to score 4+ points wins the game. Sounds easy to me.

Good rule change if it goes through.

Sudden death hasn't always been in force I think.

How about 2 overtime halves of 7:30 min; if there is a winner after one period, cancel the second period?

Is there any other sport with different rules for the post-season. By instituting a different set of rules for playoffs, wouldn't the league be admitting its regular season rules stink?

Baseball has different rules for the playoffs. DH treated differently or at least it used to be that way. Not sure about number of players allowed on the team but that changes in August at least.

Screw playoffs only, it should be like that for ALL games.

That's a great idea.

Which is the same as having overtime be 7:30 and allowing double OT.

Or since 1974.

I do think it's confusing to have one set of rules for the regular season and another set for the playoffs. What if someone scores with a safety and the other team kicked a field goal? Both teams would have had possession, but the game would continue because no one had scored 4+ points?

That would make absolutely no sense.

IMO, either leave it as it is or make it that way for ALL game....not just the playoffs....

But the point of it all is...FOLLOW THE MONEY! During the regular season, they are limited by time, plus, not as many people are watching....more people are watching the playoffs....more opportunities for commercials which are money making ventures....it's NOT about the game....it's about the greenback.

I think they should leave it alone.

When I first saw the title though, I assumed they wanted to change playoffs to more of the college version since in the playoffs there has to be a winner and the way they do it now it might take a few OTs to get one theoretically.

Actually the change that has been proposed is more complicated that that. A team can win by 3 points in several scenarios. Not clear how safeties would factor in.

I think you're advocating what I always felt made sense. Just play an entire 5th 15 min Quarter.

It's the one thing I don't like about NFL Football. Once a game gets to OT it's no longer football. It becomes something a little different.

Exactly. How many teams in the first quarter just play to get a field goal? On second down, you don't see teams at the opponents 35 yard line running a dive play to the center of the field, and then run out there kicker on 3rd down! So why decide the game like that. Honestly, if they don't want to add on a full 15-minute period to the end of the game, or at least a 10 minute period, then this change is at least closer to the true play of the game. I hate seeing teams play just to get to the 30-35 yard line.

Sounds good to me, but I would do it for all games, not just the playoff games

I don't think it's the end all be all perfect solution, but it's definitely an improvement.
