In no way do I believe Bobby Carpenter is some kind of all world linebacker. He's decent, thats about IT. But,...he takes wayyyyyyyyy more abuse around here than is deserved. Thats for sure. Last Sunday for instance, he was in on the QB and bringing pressure quite a few times with a nice blitz. Now lets look at some numbers.........The man some folks said we just CANT LIVE WITHOUT, Kevin Burnett, last year in pretty much the same role as Carpenter he put out 38 total tackles, and 2 sacks in 16 games. Oh, and even got TWO starts to help produce those numbers. This season, after only 10 games, Carpenter has 32 total tackles and two sacks, with six games to go. But I guess things like actual facts dont really matter if people have an agenda...

Once someone is in a doghouse, people don't want to let them out.

Yeah, Burnett was the starter, got hurt and when he got healthy, they left him on the bench in the nickel LB role, the same one he always played here.

Carpenter is ok in the role he's in now. Not great, but not a total scrub either. I dont think he's quite as good as Burnett, but Burnett has always had trouble staying healthy and by losing him, we were able to add Keith Brooking. And the front 7 is better with his addition, he is eons better than either Zach Thomas or Akin Ayodele were.

The guy is a first round pick who is lucky to have a job as a nickel LB. Id say that sums up everything.

Considering history is littered wth first round picks who never amount to anything, I'd say you are still being too hard on him. If he goes on to a productive career as a nickel LB, thats better than alot of first round picks.

For all the great moves BP made, he always had an equally as bad move that hurt our team.

a lot of so called "experts" here convienently forget the situation when we drafted Carpenter. At that time we had no idea if Ellis could transition, so we had to have someone there if he could not. Carpenter at his pick was consideered the most NFL ready LB who could play that position and that was by virtually every scouting service. It was a safe pick supposedly. Now some claim that he looked good in college because he played next to Hawk; I point out that Hawk has not exactly set things on fire at Green Bay. Maybe they both gained by playing next to each other. Now has he been a bust- partly yes. However he has contributed and has helped us so he is not a total bust; but no one can deny that he has disapointed. BP made a lot more good moves then bad, this one is still somewhat up in the air.

People just want to focus on the negative. Every time something negative happens they can see I told you so. Bobby has played pretty good this year considering his role.

I disagree. It's HARD to build a football team and thats what BP had to do here. He had to build the entire roster and sometime you miss and sometimes you hit. I think he did a pretty good job and far better then what we had been seeing.

Hey, Ummmm....wasnt Burnett a 2nd round pick? Wasnt Carp taken towards the end of the 1st? In the big scheme of things not all that far apart are they?

Agree to disagree.

Romo, Barber, Ware, Spears, Gurode, Ratliff, James, Newman, etc. He laid a brilliant foundation.

But when he was here we were a 9-7 club at best, and we still haven't won a playoff game with those guys.

The moves we've made since Wade has been brought in has really put us over the hump IMO.

Carp cost us a 1st round pick. Hey, how much did Roy 11 cost us?

Wonder how much he's worth on the market now.

Randy Moss was had for a 4th.

I wouldn't give up a 3rd right now for Roy if I was a GM.

I wouldnt give up a half eaten candy bar for him and his rounded off sloppy routes. The guys flat out lazy. Runs his routes like a high school kid, rounded off, not sharp. Thats why so many passes to him are high. His routes are shallow, not precise. This guy could NEVER play for Norv. Norv expected his routes to be ran EXACT, to the exact SPOT. Besides,....lately his hands are so bad he couldnt catch the swine flu in a PIGPEN!..:D

Carpenter #18
Bennett #42

24 picks apart - not a huge difference.

The guy I wanted, Manny Lawson, has 46 tackles and 3.5 sacks this year. Just sayin...

Lawson's been almost as much of a non factor in his career as Carpenter has. There's really no difference between them, and Lawson has had much more of an opportunity to play regularly.

Isnt Lawson starting? Or at least getting ALOT of snaps? Not sure, but I think so. IF he is that isnt very good. 46 tackles and 3.5 sacks compared to 32 tackles and 2 sacks that Carp has put up playing part time as a nickle backer.

That logic makes no sense. Just cause Roy Williams is a bigger disaster, doesnt mean Barbie is not a disaster.

Its a joke to say people are being too hard on a guy that was drafted in the first round and sucks. Compare him to Roy or Burnett all you want, it doesnt change the fact that he cant play.

24 picks is a huge difference when those 24 picks are amongst the first 42. Dallas has done pretty well in recent years with their first round picks, Carp was the one they missed on. It happens but he is a bust any way you shake it out.

Doesnt matter. My whole point was THIS....are we better off with Carpenter or Burnett? Looking at the numbers its pretty easy to see were better off with Carpenter. Which is EXACTLY why the staff chose to let Burnett walk in the end. Carpenters season projects out to around 48-50 tackles and 3-4 sacks on the year. Pretty good for a nickle backer IMO and WAYYYYYYYY better than what Burnett did last year.
