Lawrence is your own guy. He's not a FA. Does his signing improve your team from the previous year? Nope. It maintains the status quo.

There is no sillier logic than that of some fans that say signing one of your own is a FA signing. If it just maintains the status quo, no, it's not a true FA signing.

Right now, Dlaw is not on this team. If you sign him for 15 to 20 million, then that's one more DE on the roster than we have right now. We need to sign DLaw just to return to status quo.

Are you saying we should then spend another 15 to 20 million on a top flight DE FA? Or are you saying we should spend it on a DE other than DLaw?

If the former, 30 to 40 million is a pretty big price tag for a single position in a single offseason.

If the latter, you've done nothing but find a new face to get back to the "status quo".
