I had to put down my little Chihuahua / Scottie mix today. She went from running 100mph a few days ago to severe kidney failure today and then gone. Gonna miss that little sweet dog. I'm not looking for sympathy, I just wondered if anyone wants to talk about the dog they miss. I can't believe how a dog can become such a family member, but it's true. I'm taking shots right now to deal with the pain.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm so sorry. That must be absolutely devastating to lose a dog like that. Please let me know how I can help you.

I’m sorry man...that’s hard and it’s really no different than losing a member of your family.

I'm sorry, brother. I had to put my German Shepherd down, well I guess it was quite a few years ago now, but it feels like it was just months ago. One of the worst days of my life.

Sorry to hear it man. One of the hardest things I've ever had to do. Get another dog. I said I wasn't ready yet, but the rescue we adopted was.

Sorry to hear, been there myself a couple times. They say it gets easier over time to deal with it and it does. Just take this time to reflect on the great memories and celebrate his life and will forever remain a part of your family.

We have a little chihuahua too and he is approaching his limit as well. He has heart failure and on three different meds twice daily. He is my wifes chosen one and it will be devastating for her when that time comes

We still have another one but he's getting old as well. Not sure how I'll handle that one.

I really feel for you. it’s hard for non owners to empathize with this kind of loss. I’m glad you reached out to the forum to help u get through it. It’s therapeutic. There are no 2 dogs alike and replacing one isn’t easy as there is a very special bond shared. We lost our Golden years ago and now our Jack Russell is 15 with a nasal tumor. The hardest part is deciding exactly when their quality of life is not where it should be and deciding their fate. Take care

Appreciate it, man. I had that choice today. The vet said they could try to flush her system of the toxins but said it was a long shot that she would get any better. Also said that even if it worked that she would be facing the same situation for the rest of her life. I didn't want to put her through that and that's what did it for me.

Sorry for the loss, man. I remember fondly each and every pet I've had and lost. The ones I had to put down still haunt me, even though I knew there was no hope of recovery for them at that time.

Not a single pet was the same. They were all different personalities and true family members. Don't let the loss of this one and eventually the next one make you shy from getting another, as they do improve life in so many ways.

That was the hardest part. Wondering if you're doing the right thing.

I appreciate these responses so much because I do feel so down right now. I wouldn't expect less of fellow Cowboy fans. I will consider another one.

Unfortunately, I don't have time for another one. I work too many hours and it wouldn't be fair to leave a dog home alone all day.

I was the same way many years before I got married. Always loved dogs but didn't want to leave one at home all day. The fact that you do that shows that you are ultimately the perfect dog owner.

In the last 18 months i've lost 2 dogs that were in the family for over a decade. The guy in my avatar earlier this year and a beautiful German Shepherd the summer before.

Incredibly difficult losses, both of them.

There are some very nice people in this thread.
