I lost one of my little rescue puppies last night. I had her 4 years and 28 days. I was too shocked to cry last night, but the tears have found their way out today.

She came with another puppy from the same horrible puppy mill as a package deal. I couldn't adopt in my area, so I looked in the Dallas area and was prepared to go get them. When the lady saw where I was from, she almost filed me away until she saw a special note that I promised to raise them as Cowboy fans even though I'm in Saint's territory. It amused her and she contacted me. She was so wonderful and appreciated my interest. They'd been up for adoption for months without interest. After she picked me to take them, other's started showing interest.

The lady drove to my house to deliver my babies and paid the adoption fee for me. To this day she calls me and my puppies her success story. I still have to tell her. I wasn't prepared for that or finding out how badly they'd been abused. I'd stretch my hand out to pat them and they'd withdraw like they were about to be hit. They didn't know how to be loved. It took over half the time I'd had them to open up and show some trust. I haven't placed demands on them and tried to be as peaceful and loveable as I could be. A home with clean water and fresh food. She had no teeth, so I cut her food to be easier to swallow.

I'd gotten them as adults and they were given temporary names until adopted. I named them (Yorkies) after Dan Bailey and Cole Beasley. Bailey stuck, but Beasley didn't. She was so sweet that I named her Mommaw after my grandmothers. I know I'm rambling and apologize for it. I'm trying to get myself together enough to turn full attention to Bailey so she doesn't pull a Where The Red Fern Grows on me.

Thanks for taking time for my story. It may not make sense, but I can't see it clearly right now.

So very sorry for your loss, prayers to you during this very difficult time.

Sorry to hear, an early loss is a head scratcher for sure

My sister lost her Boston terrier of 13 years last night and our little Chi Jack is now experiencing seizures to go along with his enlarged heart at 11 years old. My wife is a complete mess right now just thinking at the inevitable :banghead:
Yeah, looking toward that day isn't much less painful than the day itself.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I hope your remaining one and you can comfort each other enough to get through this. It's always a groin punch right to the soul, isn't it? :(

A tough day at the office... Another one of our kitties passed away.

My Holly kitty.

She was a stray that found her way out into our garage.

Started feeding her, but she didn't run like most ferals do.

She welcomed being petted and soon wanted to come into the house with me.

After being checked over, we allowed her in.

She never wanted to go out again until the last couple of weeks, which was telling...

She had several physical issues. She seemed to be totally deaf. And over the last couple years became diabetic.

She drank water and peed all the time... Which made her human dad's life centered around keeping the litter boxes clean– But that's what we accept when we take in an animal.

But she was my pal and spent a lot of time in my office... Either on the floor when it was hot out or on my desk under the desk lamp in winter.

Miss her already...

Hate to hear it Mike. I've got two brothers, black with green eyes rescues that we picked up at a roadside rest stop. Somebody had dumped a litter and the other 3 siblings were dead. My wife and I kept them and bottle fed them back to health. We've had them 12 years now and they are really beginning to show their age. I dread the day. I feel for you, but from the pic it looks like Holly was living the good life. A hot blanky from the dryer, it doesn't get any better in cat land.

My cat I raised him from a kitten where he could fit in the palm of my hand. Had him for 19 years. Loved him was a family member. Nice personality but had a sense of humor . He knew when to play and it was a teasing joke. He had bad kidneys and at the end he was trying to avoid he was sick, bravely meowing like he was Ok. I just made him comfortable and he died that night. Still miss him.

It's so very hard losing our fur babies, bet you gave him a heckuva life. They are family.

I envy you that you've been able to enjoy the two boys and they you for that period of time... and yeah it's going to be brutal when you lose them– can't mask that.

You would think as you get older the pain of losing a pet would decrease ("Hey, we've been down that path before") but instead it seems to amp up in intensity. :(

We lost another in the end of '19 due to kidney issues. Very common cause of death in cats I hear.

Wow! Had him around for 19 years.

None of ours have made it that long... Had one make it to 18.

So sorry for you guys losses....I know mine is getting close. We had a huge scare a couple of weeks ago. Our Bichon will be 16 in May. Just a great, loyal dog. Truly my best friend...

He has not been feeling well so I took him to the vet. The vet said, well lets get him feeling better so they gave him a pain med. We had to put it in his mouth by syringe because he would not take a pill. Within a few days tho, he really started feeling latharic. Almost like a zombie dog. I thought he was just going downhill. He would just stand and stare into space with very little to reaction. Two weeks ago, we were getting ready to go to bed around 10 and he just would not move. I picked him up and he was breathing but totally limp with no response. We rushed him to the Doggy ER and handed him off to the nurse. They would not let us in because of Covid so we just thought that was it. We thought we would not see him again and started preparing ourselves. My wife was balling in the car. I am doing the man crying with tears flooding but no sound. At 2 in the morning the vet called us while we waited in the parking lot and told us his blood pressure was really low and there was very little response and was not sure he was going to make it. He was on IV and they were going to keep him all night. We picked him up at 7 in the morning and brought him back to his regular vet. They continued the same fluids the ER Dr had and we picked him up that afternoon. Come to find out the pain meds the original vet prescribed and we fed him almost killed him. Needless to say, he has been fine the last couple of weeks since all that stuff got out of his system. And the love that dog has been getting has been unreal. Oh buddy, you need to pee on teh floor...no problem....oh buddy you want to go out at 3 in the morning....no problem....oh buddy do you want to eat some baked fish today and hamburger patty too...oh and grilled chicken...no problem....all three...no problem....And he does not have to walk anywhere. The 15 lb dog is now toted wherever we are going. We dont leave the house without him...I think he knows it and is playing us.

If that little episode is a precurser of the final event, then it is going to be really rough. I feel we are borrowed time with hm now. Every day is an extended blessing with him. Through that episode I am thankful he is still with us even for just a little bit longer.
