2025 could be an interesting coaching cycle. So far, except for Vrabel and Johnson, there aren't many top candidates. Just depends on your flavor of ice cream. This may explain why Mike could have other options. Hell, COVID interrupted his first year a bit. Then he had three straight 12-5 seasons followed by a final year that was sabotaged by Jerry but his players still have his back.

The ageism card is unfair but Pete Carroll was born September 15, 1951. How many front offices are banking on 73-year-old (and above) head coaches to turn their franchises around?
Yeah the issue I'm sure isnt can Pete still coach....the question is how long does he have to coach, and do the Bears think they can be a quick turn around. It might be a perfect opportunity to bring a guy like that in if he came with a young stud OC who needed a year or two to learn as assistant OC and take over.......On 2nd thought that sounds way too much like a Jerry idea.

So, you have a guy with proven track record on both the college & pro level saying he wants to do it and as a owner \ GM some of you are suggesting it's a hard no?

I could understand if after careful consideration someone decided no. But a hard no just because of his age?

Will we have an answer in 2 weeks? Or will senile Jerry drag it out again like he did with Garrett?

When does MM's contract actually end? After the last game, or a week after, or a month like Garrett's did?

I know they do their end of the season coaches and player evaluations. Which should take no more than a week. Except this team. They like to drag things out. Like 6 month contract negotiations only to get fleeced.

Keep in mind McCarthy had his postseason experience by age 56. Maybe other hire candidates, who are currently as old or younger than him at that time, do not have equal amount of playoff knowledge as McCarthy. However, they should be evaluated for their entire resume as well. At least, that should be what a competent general manager should do before filling a vacancy.

How old was Vermeil when he came out of retirement to coach St. Louis? Seem to remember he was in that range.
