Pete Carroll is interested in coaching again

How old was Vermeil when he came out of retirement to coach St. Louis? Seem to remember he was in that range.
Here's my question.........Most HCs have trusted coordinators. So why is age such a factor, especially if he has skin on the wall. In other words, Pete Carroll is 73, what is he can't do now that he could do at 63? I'm suggesting we hire him but I think the age thing is over played a bit.

Booger and Chuckles like to pal around, go to lunch, and BS with their HC's. But the two of them couldn't be any further away from Carroll in regard to "social issues" and general outlooks on life....this could make for some uncomfortable moments ....it does not seem like a good match at all personality wise. So that's why I'm hoping it happens....anything to make Booger miserable and cost him money until Dim is gone, I'm 100% in favor of. :muttley: :muttley: :muttley: :muttley: :muttley:

lol. Perhaps Dick Vermeil looked older than he was?

Vermeil became St. Louis' head coach at age 61. Left the Rams at 63. Got hired by Kansas City at age 65 but retired (again) from the Chiefs at 69.
Guess it was his white hair.

Carroll never lost interest in coaching he got pushed out in Seattle. NFL teams want younger head coaches which is why Belichick wasn’t getting any interest.

So, you have a guy with proven track record on both the college & pro level saying he wants to do it and as a owner \ GM some of you are suggesting it's a hard no?

I could understand if after careful consideration someone decided no. But a hard no just because of his age?
yeah. he's one of those coaches that is synonymous with their teams, and they let him go. his pedigree is without question, but because of his age, how long will he be coaching? do you want to stake long term futures to a hc who may not be around long term?

again, i don't think the question is what can't he do, but how long can he do it for. also hc's have trusted coordinators *on staff* typically. he's not working, so those guys are either working elsewhere, forging their own paths, or also unemployed.

Will we have an answer in 2 weeks? Or will senile Jerry drag it out again like he did with Garrett?

When does MM's contract actually end? After the last game, or a week after, or a month like Garrett's did?

I know they do their end of the season coaches and player evaluations. Which should take no more than a week. Except this team. They like to drag things out. Like 6 month contract negotiations only to get fleeced.
Anything to get more attention. Thats the way they roll.

No, I don't think anyone should look at him as a long term option. However, the team(s) that have immediate needs like the Bears might do very well to see if he can get things in order so their young QB isn't a victim of the situation. Also, he might very well bring with him one or more coaches who might be viable replacements when he leaves.

We see "hot" prospects fail at a pretty high rate. Getting a proven guy seems to give a team the best odds.

sure, i like carroll and think he'd be a fine option for a number of teams. just explaining why age is a factor in my opinion.

You' d be talking him up and refering to him as "PC" as soon as he got hired
The hell I would. I have been advocating for a younger HC for a long time. Innovative on offense or dominating on defense. Why would I be talking up a 73 year old HC hire?

Hard no for me cause I can’t stand seeing his chewing gum arse on the sidelines.

No other reason and probably not a good 1. Well maybe because I’d like some younger influence

I also know it don’t matter who coach is as long as Jerry reigns supreme we’ll get same results

To be clear, I wasn't talking about here. The OP said he was interested in the Bears so I was mostly thinking from their standpoint.

Because then he would be a Cowboy lol

You were all aboard the MM train as soon as he was announced

The ageism card is unfair but Pete Carroll was born September 15, 1951. How many front offices are banking on 73-year-old (and above) head coaches to turn their franchises around?
..this guy knows how to win. Very good track record in SEA. Any organization will give him another shot. I can see Jerry being one of them
