Almost 8 pages on a backup TE.

This is the offseason. I hate it.
Three for me. Change your settings.

That said, this is nothing compared to the epic QB threads we used to have pre-Romo.

If you are running allot of 2 TE sets then I would not call him a typical backup. Face it we use the 2 TE much more than 2 backs.

It's quite amazing. Ken Hamlin doesn't suck. The OL is solid. Bennett is a budding star. RW just needs a chance. Wade Phillips and Jerry Jones are successful underappreciated achievers.....

In what bizarro world are some of you in? One where the Cowboys went 19-0 and won every game by at least 30?

This is a flawed team. It has a handful of elite players - Ratliff, Romo, Ware, Witten, etc - that got them 11 wins and to the 2nd round of the playoffs, before they got crushed and sent home. Most of the rest are just guys. The record bears that out.

Bennett may become a star. So may the kid who took snaps away from him at year end. So may anyone on any roster right now. You could play the rueage game with anybody. Were Bennett an elite talent, I could see the reluctance to part with him. He's not.

Not at all, we are a contending team no longer a 5-11 door mat as some of you act like. Do we have flaws? Yes we do as so all other team in the NFL even the champions New Orleans has some flaws on that team. As for Bennett I agree we don't know how the story will end however he is entering his 3rd season some of us are just interested to see if he can live up to the potential or not. I wish all players developed at the same rate fact is they don't.

Why did you waste some internet on this post?

Is master not pleased? Oh so sorry.

Honestly this is such a stupid thread filled with people that can not even differentiate an opinion from a fact. I grew bored with it and decided to add some more pointless crap to it just for the heck of it. I have to keep my post count up.;)

Who Belichek? He is a little limited when it comes down to blocking those quicker pass rushing OLBs. :)

Nahhh, he is a good student of the game and his oponents.

Video cams help alot these days.

Martellus Bennet can out physical almost anybody playing the game. WR fluidity, TE, strength. It's like Lebron James playing TE.

Trade him for a 2nd? No, thanks.

To both you and stash, you've brought up great points and I can see the line on where we differ lies on how we see his personal life so I won't bother with that anymore. I don't really buy into distractions or work ethic all too much based on how often they like to use technology, but I can see where you're coming from.
I truly would not care at all about what he does off the field if he was productive.

And honestly I don't care a whole lot even when he is not, other than the fact that he doesn't seem to understand he has a problem ("I could be the greatest, its the system, not me") and therefore will probably approach this offseason the same as the last. And probably with similar results.

I don't deny he's a bit lazy, but I don't think he's as bad as we're making him out to be. I wouldn't trade goofy and lazy for walking down the wrong path or anything, so I'm just glad he's not doing anything to hurt himself especially at 23/24 years old.
If I can get a 1st or 2nd round pick for a "lazy" guy who happens also to be 2nd string and potentially already has a decent replacement on the team, I do it in a heartbeat.

Its not that I'm campaigning for him to be cut or traded for scrubs, but if people are waving high draft picks in your face for him there is no reason to hold on to his "potential", when even he seems to lack any desire to reach it, and playing behind Witten may prevent him from getting there anyway.

Although I am curious to two things: How can you really be sure he looked worse on the field this year? Because of his statistics? That's not really a fair measurement. Also, where do you guys get that he doesn't know where to line up? I mean I'm sure he has to be occasionally confused on his position but I refuse to believe that he's that out of place. I just don't see it.

*shrug* Everyone takes their own perceptions from the games as they watch them, and as Stash (IMO) correctly pointed out you could probably look at just about any game from last season and find at least one if more plays when someone is telling him he is in the wrong spot. His drops were also way worse than the year prior, and to me he looked like his route running ability was way off. The example that stands our to me was the fade pass to the corner of the endzone against Denver - a route that relies 100% on timing and getting to a spot the same time the ball does - and he tried a spin move off the LOS. A 6'6" 265lb guy doing a spin move on a timing pattern? He was so late the ball sailed 10 feet over his head.

And as I've repeated ad nauseum, when Jerry Jones is pointing out that a player is having serious focus issues, I think that backs up what folks like Stash and I are saying.

There are a ton of guys who have a ton of athletic ability who never make it anywhere in football. IMO, and I hope I'm wrong but Bennett seems to be one of those guys. And if someone is going to give us a 1st day pick for him, grab it and run. I agree he is a great blocker, but blocking TEs are not worth first day picks.
