"I looked at approximately 1,649 mock drafts in the last month, and I never saw Frederick's name. "I thought I probably fit in the second round somewhere,'' he said. Listen: Let's not get up in arms because the Cowboys drafted the second- or third-rated center 31st overall in a weak draft. It's nitpicky."

Kinda harsh. From reading various sources, the Giant seems to be considered a 2nd-rounder. But now I am hearing he can play guard? Maybe there is a method of jerra's madness.

If he is considered a 2nd rounder and we picked him 31st, why do people have their panties in a bunch?

We drafted the guy 2 spots early?

But most say 3rd round. Had jerra traded down further and gotten The Giant in the early 2nd round, then that would have been better for Jerra, moneywise.

Don't know, really it should be said that Jerry has picked an OL in the first round 2 out of the last 3 years. Whether anyone likes it or not, that is the bottomline and should shut up anyone who has been doing all this crying about the trenches not getting attention.

Others had him projected at 3rd or 4th round, some as a late second rounder.

It was a reach @31 but that does not mean he will not be a good player for us, hard to say at this point.

Oddly, "Ourlads" had "The Giant" going to Dallas at pick #47.

They had the Cowboys picking Cooper at #18.

I think that illustrates why/how the Cowboys ended up choosing who they did at #31.

The draft's 1st round didn't pan out the way many thought that it would.

I equate this to how Jimmy Johnson handled the loss of Rocket Ismail to the Canadian League back in the 90's.........he had the overall #1 pick

He went with Russel Maryland.....of whom he said----he is a plug and play 10 year NFL player. A no risk round 1 NFL player, might not be a Randy White or a Reggie White.....but he was a lunch bucket guy you didnt worry about for 10 years in the locker room or on the playing feild.....

......I think that is what we got in Frederick: .......Cowboys couldnt afford to miss on a Shariff Floyd..a Spears Clone run stopper

he's not top of the second round player, he's a late second at best, most likely a third. thee slowest offensive linemen in twenty years.....Floyd droppped into their laps and Jerry once again made himself look like a fool...should of slelectd Floyd at 18 and could of selected Fredricks in the second round.. They didn't get the value moving back 13 spots for a third round pick, regardless what Jerry and Steven say, everyone says they were hosed..

Floyd is more in the mold of Maryland with a lot more ability..

Frederick was interviewed on a radio station here in milwaukee about being drafted by the Cowboys. He said he and his agent thought he would go anywhere from the mid 20's to anywhere in the 40's. He said when Dallas traded back he thought it was a good sign for him on being drafted by the Cowboys. He said that the first person to reach out to him at pre draft workouts from the Cowboys was Bill Callahan. Then the cowboys brought him in for a visit and he met all the coaches and Jerry Jones. It was a pretty cool interview. ill try to find it and post it here. It was on Milwaukees ESPN AM 540.

PS he grew up a Bears fan

... Floyd is a run stuffer--not what is needed in Kiffen's 4-3, with Maycok hinting at some Character issues as they wondered why he fell

Prisco of CBS had him in the 20s as Indy's first round pick.

suffice to say the draft is an inexact science.

Frederick the Giant seems to be the type of player who progresses slowly but surely and could be around for a long time.

I'm just glad to see Jerry give some love to the interior OL. Whether or not the pick was scouted properly is anybody's guess since the guru's opinions are varied and not necessarily Cowboy-centric in their perspective, only Callahan and our scouts know for sure. The mediots love to bash the Cowboys draft(admittedly for good reason) but there's enough evidence to give Dallas the benefit of a doubt for now.

Maryland was pretty dominant in college. He put together better numbers in a single college season than Floyd put together in his 2 years at UF.

Floyd was actually projected as a pass rushing DT, he just does not have a lot of sacks.

Quite simply I don't think he (Floyd) was a good fit for the Cowboy's new look defensive line.

Weak draft?

Depending on which media person you listen to this draft is anywhere from good to piss poor.

Risen Star approves of this message.

I think Frederick is a safe pick at a very important hole so it may be difficult to rue Floyd. However, if Floyd is disruptive and doesn't cause problems then I can see the scales tipping. If our sacks and pressures go down enough then you could argue Ratliff will be disruptive enough who needs another stinkin' DT. :)
