Quote of the Week V

"Jerry Jones? JERRY JONES ON THE PHONE! JERRY JONES ON THE PHONE! JERRY JONES ON THE PHONE! AHHHOOOOOWOWWW!''

--Dallas Cowboys second-round draft choice Martellus Bennett, a tight end from Texas A&M, just before hearing the Dallas owner tell him he was a Cowboy. Hearing Jones' voice drove Bennett and his family into a frenzy.

Thanks to Rich Dalrymple, the Cowboys PR man, for forwarding the MP3 recording of the event, which is one of the most joyous things I've ever heard in my life. It sounded like the reaction one would get if Jones had said, "You just won $1 billion in the lottery.'' Really, it was even more joyful than that.
It is so good to hear that. Someone who really wants to play for the Cowboys. We need more of those who consider the star on their helmet an honor and a privilege not just a paycheck.

frankly,I dont care a flying **** about this list.it doesn't mean anything and is pointless.we dont deserve a no 4 until we win a playoff game.

heres my top 7:

1.dallas
2.pats
3.colts
4.chargers
5.jax
6.giants
7.packers

-I would have the Cowboys ahead of the Jags,
-I think the defending champs need a little more love and the Colts a little less to be frank.

Otherwise, I think it's a decent list....though I think the Bills, Steelers and Eagles are better than the Vikings, because Tavaris Jackson scares no one.

1.Pats
2.Giants (they are the defending champs afterall)
3.Cowboys
4.Chargers
5.Jags
6.Colts
7.Steelers

The big surprise here is Miami isn't rated #2 knowing http://img.***BLOCKED***/albums/v628/cowboyszone/zone_icons/king.gif's mancrush on Parcells.

I'm actually considering picking us to play Jacksonville in the Super Bowl this year, and no, this list has absolutely nothing to do with it. I think they're going to be pretty damn good this season. I think the Pats and Colts will both fall a bit, though they'll obviously make the playoffs and are very possible Super Bowl winners. I just think the Pat's defense is getting old and their offense will not be as explosive as last year. Even though the Giants won the Super Bowl, I still think we're a more talented team. They got hot and rode it to the title. It won't happen again. Barring catastrophic injuries, we'll be in the big game this coming season.

I don't necessarily take winning a playoff game to be the end-all to the argument.

The goal is to win Championships and until they start handing out Championships for regular season performances, the playoffs performances are the end-all.

between him and choice, those were some fun reactions to see/hear! that must be one AWSOME phone call for an athlete in their position!

I agree, however, what round did the Jaguars lose in? They didn't advance any further in the playoffs than we did.

Can someone elaborate on what Jacksonville did that puts them up that high in the rankings?

Yeah, they reached for Harvey (Florida DE) who King obviously thinks was a great pick, when everyone else, thought was a major reach. I agree with the latter myself.

According to some people maybe.

I thought Tashard Choice's phone call was equally as good.

How about them Cowboys! :)

If not for the New England Patriots, Jacksoville would have been in the Super Bowl. No team is like theirs in the NFL.

You mean a team with a solid defense, strong running game, and a capable quarterback? I could name a few myself.

Can I use that line?

"If not for the New York Giants, Dallas would have been in the Super Bowl."

There.

I feel better now.

Nope, I mean a team with a running back who could flatten Shawn Merriman, the "toughest" team by terms of aggressiveness, a team will zero wide receivers, yet is capable of winning 12 games with an average QB and a defense that on every play can force a turn over ;)

EDIT: stasheroo, I feel better now also.

Fred Taylor and Jones-Drew = solid running game = check
Turnovers = Solid defense = check

About the only thing I agree with you is about their receiving corp. When you have a half-way decent quarterback that can get even those yahoos the ball, then that tips the balance in your favor. = so check again.

Reaching the AFC Championship as wild card is a pretty good start. Beating Pittsburgh and Indy (a game NON ONE gave them a shot to win, with an injured LT and Rivers) on the road is a tall order. Hell we couldn't beat a team that we had beaten twice by double digits with a week of rest and a homefield advantage. I don't have any qualms about the ranking.
