Maybe, but not early on, and especially not against the Bucs and Bengals early on. I'd start him off the first two weeks at LG at a minimum. Then, as he develops, I'd probably maybe mid-season or so move him to LT. Our schedule, after the first two weeks, gets easier (excluding the Rams game) until we play the Packers. Therefore, once we start playing teams who are weaker than we are, on paper, then I'd start letting him get reps at LT and moving Peters to LG. That way, it gives him a chance to develop and become comfortable with NFL blocking before we throw him against the best DEs that our opponents have to offer.

Why wait till mid season..heres the thing to me, get the kid playing now and when you hit your division schedule you know what you have..I dont see the diference in LT play between Tyler Smith and a 40 yr old Peters as being the diference in if we beat the Buccs or cinci BUT even if it is thats not as bad as going into our division games not knowing what you have in the kid. Sign Peter its great insurance if its a fail and if he can play LG even better....but before we get into the division games find out if this kid can play LT....Peter is 40 far from a givin he will make it through the season.

I get Peters's age, but he's still a solid LT. I think a bit of mentoring from Peters would be helpful, and Smith getting a game or two to learn from Peters would be good.

He is having to block Micah Parsons in practice..Im not sure he will see better competetion than what he will face every week in practice...Peters to me is great insurance, if they sign him.

True about Parsons. And I know Parsons speaks highly of him. That said, I still think, at least through the first two weeks, Tyler at LG and Peters at LT is the better move because of the fact we play the Bucs and Bengals to start. If it was the Giants to start, I'd feel better about having Tyler at LT.

Im the opposite, we need to be playing our best ball when the division schedule hits....i know alot gets overhyped on this forum about "They only beat thier division" but remeber if we dont beat them then there is no playoffs...and Chaz Green does not happen often...if our OL is why we lose ( and it very well could be) it wont be just one guy getting blown away every play...if the guy coming at the LT is having that day it wont matter if its Peters or Tyler..If Peters was still his all pro self he would not be available...

He may not be All-Pro anymore, but he's still an excellent tackle.

To be fair to everyone and give the Cowboys a fighting chance this season, Peters needs to start at LT and let Smith play LG.

For long term, if you truly believe Smith is LT of the future, he needs to play. But if that loses you games hard pill to swallow for the rest of the team.

Even if they sign Peters, I suspect you'll see Smith at LT for the opener. If he struggles mightily, Peters may be in for game #2, but if he plays well I believe Peters will hand back as the swing.

IF Dallas signs Peters, it is not to play anything but LT. A guy that age won’t switch positions or be a backup/swing tackle. If Dallas thinks Tyler is ready, then there is no need to sign Peters.

Tyler is ready.

But this isn't about that. This is about having Tyler play guard, where he will literally dominate. Just watch.

At tackle, his technique wasn't quite there at the NFL level. He can do it. Watch. Tyler Smith will be a good left tackle. He will get beat on the 11th, though because he hasn't had time to prepare. But I bet he doesn't get beat that badly. And besides, he's a smart kid. His parents did an excellent job raising him. That much you can tell.

Getting Peters is a smart idea. It's a risk, but we should be taking risks, especially if we're in a position like this.

This is all really because LT is important. I want a vet there. That's just me. Have my young buck blocking it up the middle on the run, like the old Cowboys.

We can't stock our roster like we have it stocked and not sign some depth. We like McGovern, but he's a great back up. So we can roll on gameday with McGovern as the back up in the middle, and one more swing tackle, i.e. Well let's go or Ball.

Es todo.

Agree.

Getting Peters is a win win. You get to leave Tyler at guard for a year, while he gains NFL experience.

Tyler can dominate at guard.

If all else fails, Tyler can probably hold you down at LT, if not even dominate himself.

It's just better to have skill at both LT and LG.

Having Tyler at LG is kinda like cheating. It's like having Martin at RT. Or it could potentially be, for all of those who like to temper assessments. Lots of people think Tyler can dominate similarly, in some ways, the way Larry Allen dominated. He's really strong compared to other guys.

correct, even a LA - All time great guard when he started as a young tackle, was manhandled by R.white and the kind.

Because T.Smith at LG can help C- Biadaz better than McGovern

That is essentially where I was going. If he comes here it is to start at LT, nothing else and Tyler will be at LG.

Yep. I was just reiterating what Crown Royal was getting at.

It is about winning. So, yeah, he plays LT, and Peters on the right. It's not much of a drop off from Tyron.

This dude has a bunch of pro bowls..he's just 40.

I feel like if homeboy could not play, he wouldn't. But he knows he can. Peters, that is.

1) if Peters is still able to play solid competitive ball, i'd want him starting when ready. and have Tyler start at LG- instead of McGovern;
Though an inexperienced, undiscipline raw rookie, Tyler still offers such imposing brute power and anchor that McGovern just won't offer.
He's not on the ground and falling off blocks.

2) What if the 40 yr old Peters gets injured ? ... what's Plan B ? Tyler back out at LT ? or seeing what Matt Wally (if healthy) has to offer ?
If Tyler has to go back out at LT,- that's still a guy that has had zero T-camp and preseason summer reps at LT, and we're back to square one.
