Peterson's Not as Big as You'd Anticipate...

If he's a once in a generation CB, then I would not have a problem spending what was needed. I mean, I get what Hos is trying to say. I also recognize that not everybody would agree. That's fine but if he were that guy, I would not have a problem with it.

However, I am not convinced he is. He would have to have a lights out Combine and show real, real well in all the workouts and allstars.
I will put it this way, I think in 2 years he can be the best CB in the NFL given his unique combination of size, speed, and skills. One thing people don't always acknowledge when talking about Deion Sanders is that he was taller than most other CBs of his era. Same height as Peterson in fact. Peterson does not have Deion freak speed, but Deion could never hit or tackle like this kid, and he is fast enough to get the job done.

IMNSHO, best player in this draft, and in response to the "he won't be there" crowd I merely say "pfft." The teams in front of us need QB and DL a lot more than CB. All we need is for him to fall so far and then move up. I am all for it. If others are not I do understand. I just disagree.

I'm not taking away anything from Patrick Peterson...I hope you understand that.

I just truly believe that Akwasi Owusu-Ansah has what it takes to be the next breakthrough Dallas Cowboy and I want him to have every shot at making it.

I see him being the Miles Austin of our team at the Safety position.

I'll just put it out there:

Akwasi Owusu-Ansah > Patrick Peterson

He will be cheaper and just as productive

I wanted AOA last year but if hes good enough they will find a role for him.

We cant pass on secondary help for a complete unknown

You asked me one time to jab you if I ever saw a player I was as high on as I was Patrick Willis.

Jab.

My guy Jake Locker is doing us a big favors this week

What do we have here.

AdamSchefter Adam Schefter

To those asking where Texans A+M LB Von Miller will go in the NFL draft, the early signs are, Top 5 pick.

Getting warmer

Agree with Hos on this one.

But Hos, what is your take on having AOA play deep for us?
I like AOA a lot. I had him in almost all of my mocks last year. I think he can develop into a good player. Better than Peterson? Nope, I don't see that at all.

I hope so. I still wouldn't want him.

A comment earlier about Denver taking Peterson. I agree, that is the only team I truly fear screwing this up.

Hos, believe me...I like Peterson as much as the next guy; but it all depends on what we do in FA.

Assuming we need to trade up for PP, I will only be truly happy if we adress the O-line in free agency. If not, then I wouldn't mind moving up to get him, but I would be dissapointed in not using our top pick to trade down and grab a RT and collect more picks for depth.

PP will be a boss, but so will Akwasi Owusu-Ansah.

Hos, I seem to agree with just about whatever you have to say.

I am a BIG fan of AOA and appreciate the respect you give the man.

AOA will be the man and I'm telling you that you will be quite surprised in his performance (much like I'm sure everyone was with Miles)

1. Carolina - Fariley
2. Denver - Bowers
3. Buffalo - Cam Newton
4. Cincy - Blaine Gabbert
5. Cards - Von Miller
6 Cle - AJ Green
7. SF - Jake Locker/Quinn
8. Titans - Jake Locker/Quinn
9. Dallas -

Trading up to get Peterson is just too expensive. Not just in picks but in cap money. Now one can HOPE that a new CBA is in line with a rookie cap but its not likely.
Dallas over the last 9 first rd picks we have had - only one was a bust in Carp. Ironically that was the one we played safe. We have hit on every other first rd pick (I am counting Old Roy since he did give us several top grade years). Even Spears has done well for us. Spencer is closest to not being a real player but at least we still think he can be (most of us). That is better than our average has been with the 2nd rd pick. BUT its not worth losing our 2nd pick plus probably our third or worse maybe next years first to get peterson. We need several playrs to come out of this draft and since its very likely FA will come AFTER the draft we have to address needs THERE not FA.

Moving up to 4th would only cost us a 2nd, moving to sixth overall would cost us a 3rd. I don't think a 2nd rounder or a 3rd rounder are that much to give up for a guy like Patrick Peterson, and if Jerry has the hots for him he won't think so either.

How high do you you think we would possibly be willing to jump? i would think like if he slides past 6 that we might make a move but would think we wouldnt go up into the top 5. what do you think is the magic number?

Don't know yet, but I'll say 6 or 7.

preciate the input, i was pretty much thinking along the same lines. i would be willing to do that if he is the quality everyone has made him out to be, the more elite players we can get the better. hopefully we wont be this high in the draft again for a long time so while we are up here we should make the most of it for a blue chipper. plus saw a video of prince on dc's site and was less than impressed.

I think we would have to jump ahead of SF at #6 to get PP.

Fair enough. I don't see what you see but that doesn't mean anything.

I will say this. I watched Deion at North Fort HS and then later at FSU. I don't see the natural ability in Peterson that I saw in Deion. To be honest, when I look at Peterson, I see more of the same kind of skills that I saw with Rod Woodson but not as good. At least, not from what I've seen. A lot of my reservations could be put aside if I just saw him with more explosion to the ball. Cutting weight from 220 to 205 or 210 could allow for that. If it does, then I'm all for it. I'm a big fan of CBs who can take away another teams top WR. I'll watch him closely and see if the weight improves his agility.

I hope it does my friend.

Here's my two cents: We potentially can have an outstanding DRAFT this year if lady luck is on our side. There are some outstanding LINEMAN (OL) available in Rd's 1 thru 3. I'm not really sure about drafting Cameron Jordan at pick #9 . I didn't SEE much from him during this past college season. His sack totals were NOT that impressive and after watching game film on him, I still don't see a guy that can dominate at the next level and/or who's worthy of a (high) first round pick.

If we can't 'steal' Peterson at pick #9, however, I'd rather us grab either the BPA or even slide down (for an extra 3rd Rd pick) and draft OT Gabe Carimi (whom the Eagles covet) from Wisconsin. Gabe has a nasty streak about him that we definitely need on the Cowboys offensive line. We can also grab another stud OG (Moffitt or Danny Watkins) and/or Center (BPA) that'll be available in either Rd2 or Rd3 (and second Rd3 pick from sliding down a few spots) and infuse our entire OL with young studs.

I strongly believe Rob Ryan will be pretty satisfied with current defensive players. If Brent gains a few pounds and can play the NT position, Ratliff can slide down to DE or (better yet) rotate with Brent to keep each other fresh. With Spears, Bowen, Hatcher, Igor, and young Lissemore as our DE's, we should be in pretty good shape for 2011. If we DRAFT a young stud NT (330lbs or bigger like they have on the Packers, Ravens, Jets, and Steelers rosters), Ratliff can move to DE to compete/rotate with the other five DE's on our roster.

If we can't draft CB/S Peterson in RD 1, I'm sure our scouting department has one or two young fast CB's on their radar for Rd 3 or Rd 4. Regarding FS, the draft is NOT that good this year for FS prospects. Jerrah can address the FS position in Free Agency since we should play an NFL veteran at this position. And, I, personally don't believe AOA or Ball can get the job done at FS. They need to start on nickel packages and work their way into the lineup unless someone gets injured. Rds 4 thru 7 should be where we look for RB and FB help since this is our year to finally get 2-3 future stud starters for the OL in the early rounds (Rd's 1-3 with maybe an extra 3rd Rd pick from sliding down).

I did the math and came to the same conclusion, 6 is as high as we could realistically go without completely compromising our draft.

I'll ask you right now. If he was guaranteed to be the next Rod Woodson, is there anyone in this draft you would take ahead of him?

That's a great question.
