Peterson's Not as Big as You'd Anticipate...

We gave up a 3rd when the dealing was said and done.

If we end up with the best player in the Draft I am all for it.

If it's the best player in the draft you are moving up for, then I would agree. I guess I'm not convinced that Peterson is the best player in the draft.

However, I think it's a very good thing that he's lost some weight. He looked a bit sluggish to me at the published weight of 220, LSU claimed he was.

If he gets some explosion on his break, my opinion of this player could turn around 180 degrees.

We gave up our third but we got their fourth, right?

I guess if he's truly a superstar kind of player, it would be worth it. But the goal is to improve the team overall, not to get the one particular best player. Or at least it should be.

Even if Peterson is the best player ever born to man he will probably not be obtainable for us. He is extremely likely to go top 4. He is almost assuredly going to be rated the top skill player on all boards. Guys like Bowers, Von Miller and a few others may vary by team but every team wants big, powerful, playmaking CBs.

I'd slot him at 3 to Buffalo or 4 to Cincy in a mock right now.

Going from 9 to 4 is very, very tough to do. On an updated value chart that's basically 9 plus 41 with zero return. To 3 is a Ricky Williams type trade. That's 9, 41, and every other pick we have.

Peterson is kinda like TNew in that many teams will rate him the top overall athlete on the boards. The difference is Peterson is about 3 years younger at draft time and is a bigger athlete.

If we are going to waste cycles talking about him we might as well start hoping for Fairley who'd give us the second Jay Ratliff we want.

If he's a once in a generation CB, then I would not have a problem spending what was needed. I mean, I get what Hos is trying to say. I also recognize that not everybody would agree. That's fine but if he were that guy, I would not have a problem with it.

However, I am not convinced he is. He would have to have a lights out Combine and show real, real well in all the workouts and allstars.

I actually would prefer to do it for a once in a generation safety, not CB. I'm probably the only one bummed he's going to lose weight. :D

...huh? So now he doesn't weigh enough and before he weighed too much? Guy can't win with some people.

Seriously, I've never read someone so infatuated with weight.

Newman, Scandrick, and Jenkins are all above average players.

Who goes if these rumors are true?

Please, run a 4.2 Peterson. Please.

Those 14lbs are a ton when you are trying to change directions at full speed. No question he needs to drop them if he hasn't already.
If he could get down to around 210-212 range then he would be the same saize as a couple of the top CB in the league Asomugha, Cromartie).
Even then, a 10 lb change (if 222 was accurate) is significant.

What? Jenkins was horrific, Scandrick is a mess, and Newman is getting up there.

Yes, lets avoid freak DB talent b/c our D was so good last year

I think Peterson will be an okay player but not a superstar or even a star player...just don't see it...Really hope someone else gets him....

Anyone still regretting that win over the Eagles practice squad?

I don't root for us to lose, but if you want PP, #6 looks a whole lot better than #9. He may not slip by Denver at #2 if Fairley goes first.

Call me crazy if you want, but I'm ready to pass on Patrick Peterson if it means giving Akwasi Owusu-Ansah a shot

Oh yeah. Probably those of us who put no value on that win at the time. ;)

Since when is 208 too small to play FS? Sean Taylor for the Skins was 212.

I'm not taking away anything from Patrick Peterson...I hope you understand that.

I just truly believe that Akwasi Owusu-Ansah has what it takes to be the next breakthrough Dallas Cowboy and I want him to have every shot at making it.

I see him being the Miles Austin of our team at the Safety position.

I'll just put it out there:

Akwasi Owusu-Ansah > Patrick Peterson

He will be cheaper and just as productive

The more special players you have, the closer you get to being unbeatable. See the early 1990's Dallas Cowboys for reference.

Agree with Hos on this one.

But Hos, what is your take on having AOA play deep for us?
