Seriously, Folk's kickoffs have been the worst in the league, and it hasn't even been close.

ok your hired to do it...get it into the stands each and every time

I think he kicks it higher on purpose to not out kick the coverage.

I also think hes the best onside kicker around.

Yea, and next time you question an Offensive Lineman, I'll ask you get out there and block on the goal line, k?

http://sports.myway.com/nfl/stats/league/kickoffaverage.html

Nick Folk has the shortest kickoffs in the league, at 61.4 yards per kick. The best is Sebastian Janikowski at 69.6 yards per kick. The next worst after Folk is John Carney, at almost a yard better... 62.2 yards per kick.

And BTW, John Carney was deactivated yesterday because Caughlin didn't trust his kickoffs to be strong enough in the swirling meadowland wind.

Also for anyone who pulls the "he's kicking it short to help the coverage" bit...

http://sports.myway.com/nfl/stats/league/avgoppstartposafterkickoff.html

Folk is the lowest in opponent starting position after a kickoff, averaging the 32.9 yard line. The best is Kris Brown of Houston at 24.1 yard line, and the next worse is more than 2 yards better-- Dan Carpenter of Miami at 30.7 yard line.

Also notice how the guys who kick it the furtherest also have the best oppenent starting position. This idea that kicking it "higher" will result in better coverage is crap. As anyone who has actually kicked a football well before knows... the additional hang time you get by putting the ball around the 10-15 yard line (where Folk's kicks usually land) is MAYBE 0.4 seconds. Not NEARLY worth the distance you give up.

In conclusion, lets get a punter than can Kickoff, please.

Sure, go ahead and avoid all the evidence I just provided that was, you know, actually on topic.

I heard Paulescu was a punter and kickoff specialist. Did I hear wrong?

I love Folk, but we need a kicker that can boot that ball into the endzone. It'd be a band-aid for our terrible special teams if we can just take away the return altogether. Can't we just sign an MLS player with a big foot? I'm joking.... i think. Discuss

edit: fixed, thanks hostile. haven't had my coffee today!
UTEP's Jose Martinez has a deep leg. He boots lots of KOs into the endzone. Plus, he's got a deep leg. Keep an eye on him...

So, pretty much you can't question any Cowboys coach/player unless you can do it better yourself.

What a boring way to follow your favorite team.

Back on topic...nice stats, bro. I've been looking for special team stats. Thanks.

...wedges r cover all the lanes. He just does his job and stays back to cover his portion of the field. Our problems on kick off returns are not his fault and he shouldn't have to answer for his job with our lousy coverage teams.

Hmm.. overall.. yes we need better kickoff distance, but I think the wind was severly underplayed last night. When neither kicker can make it from 40 yards out, there is a good bit of wind blowing around. I'm suprised Al and John didn't talk about it more because it played a big factor when you go back and think about how both teams played the game with and against the wind.

I have a plan.

We get a Punter that can kick off and also hold for FG's and Extra points.

That way we solve three roster spots with one guy.

Paulesco is average at best. Folk isn't getting it done on kickoffs (although he is money on FG's so he keeps that job). Brad Johnson being the #2 QB because he's the only guy who can hold on FG's/EP's is ridiculous.
