Eli Manning: We're the same team that started 5-0
Posted by Michael David Smith on December 2, 2009 5:25 PM ET
The New York Giants looked like they were in complete control of the NFC East early this season, but they've been in a tailspin since Week Six, and if they lose to the Cowboys on Sunday, they can pretty much forget about winning the division.

But Giants quarterback Eli Manning says there's no reason for panic, because the Giants are no different now than they were when they won five straight games to start the season.

"We've got to know that this is the same team that started 5-0," Manning said today. "You look at it offensively, the same guys that started the first game are in the huddle. We've got the ability and the talent to go out there and play great football and win games, and we've got to expect that from ourselves. There's no reason not to. Just because you go through a little stretch where you're not playing your best, it's still the same guys, it's still the same team that got off to a great start, the same team that beat this team in Dallas in front of 105,000 people."

Manning sounds confident, but the Giants' record tells a different story. The Giants are the first team since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger to drop five out of six games after starting 5-0. Something must be wrong.

Is that "something" Manning's health? Manning says his foot injury isn't bothering him, but his passing stats have declined drastically during the Giants' six-game skid. If the Giants don't bounce back and beat the Cowboys on Sunday, it's hard to see how Manning could continue to say with a straight face that they're still the same team.

I really want to chase Eli all over the field on Sunday and pound on him for his arrogance. I'd like to knock that smirk permanently off of that adolescent choirboy mug of his.

I would approve of a 72-0 rout of the Giants. Generally, I don't believe in running up the score like that. I have a mathematical formula of when to take your foot off the petal based on how much time is left and a minimal lead advantage.

Crush them. Though ***** *** Wade wouldn't do that.

Please show this to our front 7.

I tweeted some of it to Spears & Sensabaugh. But you know, watching the player interviews today...Choice and Bradie mentioned about the Giants writing on lockerroom walls and saying stuff after the game about respecting them...so they are very aware of this extra motivational material. I have never agreed with the idea you don’t need any more motivation than just wanting to win. Look at the Patriots and Steelers, they use this stuff to take them to another level. I think the Cowboys D is going to come out very determined.

I don't think something's wrong as much as it is the case that their 5-0 start was a fluke. Truth be told, we lost to mediocre Ginats team early on by beating ourselves. I jut hope that in this upcoming Sunday's game we don't play down to the competition again.

I wonder if it would be legal for Witten to Superglue suction cups to the heals of his shoes?

There was something seriously wrong with our defense, especially the secondary, the first couple of games of the year. Our defensive rankings would be much better if those two games were omitted.

First two games

ppg alllowed: 27
passing yards/game: 303
rushing yards/game: 136
total yards/game: 439
sacks/game: 0.0

Last 9 games

ppg allowed: 14.2
passing yards/game: 208
rusing yards/game: 96
total yards/game: 304
sacks/game: 3.1

I hope we treat Eli the way we treated Kent Graham and Dave Brown during the 90s

No they just know how to get pumped up for football, they're not gonna take it any more easy on you if you're nice to them.

Some of our fans today would be sleeping under their beds in fear had will still had Jimmy and his 3" bold headlines
