Eli Manning: We're the same team that started 5-0
Posted by Michael David Smith on December 2, 2009 5:25 PM ET
The New York Giants looked like they were in complete control of the NFC East early this season, but they've been in a tailspin since Week Six, and if they lose to the Cowboys on Sunday, they can pretty much forget about winning the division.

But Giants quarterback Eli Manning says there's no reason for panic, because the Giants are no different now than they were when they won five straight games to start the season.

"We've got to know that this is the same team that started 5-0," Manning said today. "You look at it offensively, the same guys that started the first game are in the huddle. We've got the ability and the talent to go out there and play great football and win games, and we've got to expect that from ourselves. There's no reason not to. Just because you go through a little stretch where you're not playing your best, it's still the same guys, it's still the same team that got off to a great start, the same team that beat this team in Dallas in front of 105,000 people."

Manning sounds confident, but the Giants' record tells a different story. The Giants are the first team since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger to drop five out of six games after starting 5-0. Something must be wrong.

Is that "something" Manning's health? Manning says his foot injury isn't bothering him, but his passing stats have declined drastically during the Giants' six-game skid. If the Giants don't bounce back and beat the Cowboys on Sunday, it's hard to see how Manning could continue to say with a straight face that they're still the same team.

I understand that "a win is a win" but its not like the Giants came in and beat us down. They escaped with a win due to Romo's carelessness.

For Eli to write on the locker room wall or whatever and then to boast of a win at stadium in front of 105,000 is almost laughable. He could have been the "goat" of that game.

Whatever makes her get through the night.. I guess..

Kick him in the foot a few times and we will see how confident he feels then. Do whatever it takes to win this game.

I don't think something's wrong as much as it is the case that their 5-0 start was a fluke. Truth be told, we lost to mediocre Ginats team early on by beating ourselves. I jut hope that in this upcoming Sunday's game we don't play down to the competition again.

Exactly. Giants had 4 turnovers, ROmo playing poorly and still needed overtime to beat Dallas. I don't think the GIants were ever as "good" as the crappy teams that they played against made them look. Same thing can be said about Dallas's record too but. F - that. That is incorrect. LOL..

Beat the piss outta them Dallas.

The Giants are indeed the same team -- a team that needs us to turn the ball over all game in order for them to have a chance to beat us.

I think it could be a knockdown dragout fight come Sunday as both teams are going to be fired up. We really need to get the ship going early- we can't have another slow starting game keeping them in it. I think we will make them one - dimensional but we have not proven we can stop the Giants receivers so I am afriad this is not going to be a cakewalk at all.

I have no problem with anything our players are saying. They seem to have the right attitude for success coming into this game!

Jock straps hanging in the locker room, autograph on the wall, stompin' on the Star post game, talking trash all offseason and let's not forget the 2007 Playoff defeat.

Punish the Giants Sunday. End their season and bury them, now!

I saw this interview on NFLN last night...and She-li actually looked pretty serious & confident...hell, borderline arrogant when she said it! It made me wanna smack the **** outta her and hopefully our front seven feels the same way Sunday!! I want that #10 imprinted all over the Vagiants' fieldturf after we're thru w/ them...

I really want to chase Eli all over the field on Sunday and pound on him for his arrogance. I'd like to knock that smirk permanently off of that adolescent choirboy mug of his.
Let's hope our DLine feels the same way.

He's really looking at it like the last 6 games have been some kind of fluke or something. They've been the same team...playing better teams than they did when they went 5-0 (for the most part). Remember, Dallas had FOUR turnovers and the Giants still needed a last second FG to win. It's not like they dominated Dallas.

The thing that makes me feel really good about this game is that the Giants are going to come in with a big head; they think they're the same team as the last couple of years and just expect success is going to come. Kinda how the boys acted after 13-3. but this time around, the boys are approaching the game with a level head...they know they have to play hard to win

Exactly. The Giants have never soundly beaten us, outside of the Brad 'I'm a ***** Armed Snitch' Johnson game. We always beat ourselves.

Man I hope we thump them this Sunday and end their season. Sick of Coughlin's bull****, tired of Eli pretending like he's an elite QB, and especially tired of Brandon Jacobs acting like he's even a top 20 back in this league.
